Anyone ever fix "Check Disc" error by themselves?

Hey,

So I too have the dreaded check disc error and because of the fact that I am not under warranty anymore, I can either pay $600 for an oem replacement, pay $600 for a new aftermarket HU, or fix it myself, which is what I plan on doing.

So my question to you all is this: Has anyone here actually fixed the unit by themselves? I think that the only thing that is broken on mine is the laser. I have the 6 disc changer and it accepts, circulates, loads, and ejects discs fine. No grinding or mechanical noises (which would indicate mechanical malfunction) can be hear, so that leads me to assume that it's the laser.

How many of you have actually ripped apart the radio itself and tried to fix it?

I just held down the eject button for about 30 seconds until a disc ejected, then never got another msg like that again.

I have had that problem about 2 years ago and solved it... There was a combination that you had to do posted somewhere here before... Trying to find it now as a friend is having that problem. The combination didn't work, but pressing similar stuff to that did the job... It's like an override to spit out CDs.
