v1 or escort

What is the better unit now a days?

I plan to hardwire it into the mirron on my g35 2007 sedan.

Never owned an Escort so cant honestly comment on it however I absolutely love the arrows on my V1. As far as radar quality though, I believe the two units are pretty much equal. The thing I like about the Escort is that it comes in blue LED and as I mentioned the V1 comes with arrows. It is up to you decide on which of their differences are more important to you.

I like my passport with blue led's does a great job. I have also heard great things about the V1. I don't think you could go wrong with either one, but my vote is for the passport (although I'm biased b/c I have one).

g/l with your purchase.

I had a V1 for a couple years, but it was stolen. I did like it a lot and it's definitely top notch. But I didn't really use the arrows - if it went off, I didn't take the time to figure out which arrow was alerting - I just slowed down (assuming the alert was real).

So this time around I think I'm going for the Escort 8500 x50 or maybe one of the higher-end BELs. Have a couple choices on my Xmas list.

The Beltronics RX65 is thought to have the same internals as the Passport 8500. They are made by the same company and perform similarly in tests.

ive had the 8500x50, 9500i, and the v1...i kept the v1 at the end because the display for where the signal is coming from...the 9500i has the lockout function but its overrated

The new horn on the X50 has really hampered it's performance and thus has fallen just a tad back from the leaders. The V1 is still the top performing detector. The 9500i comes close as does the Bel STi. My STi outperforms my V1 by a small margin. K band the V1 cannot be equalled. I was able to test against 35.5 ka and k bands throughly. The one piece of advice I give you is there is no perfect detector for everyone. The V1 while decisively the most sensitive radar detector is also the chattiest radar detector of the bunch. I can program it to mute until 4 led's on k band, but it's still by far the chattiest detector. The V1 has a ton of programming options and is definately my choice detector for highway driving. Arrow, arrows, arrows. This is definately the most important feature I miss while driving with my STi. Unfortunately in VA the STi is the only choice at the moment. I myself have seen an undercover VA State Leo with a Spectre IV in Northern VA. My STi is by far a quieter detector for everyday driving and it's range on 35.5 ka is nothing short of amazing. Luckily VA only uses 35.5 ka and k band radar. Although laser is prominant in Fairfax county. Fairfax is planned to get rid of all radar next year and have purchased a slew of lidar units.

thats really not the best answer to ask...

basically..those who have escorts will say escort is better..those who have V1 will say V1 is better

i have a v1...and i love it..same with 99% of all its customers..
also with escort about 99% of those who have one love it...

the difference pretty much is the escort is more "new" looking..the v1 has a old school look to it..but as far as distance..according to guys of lidar the v1 has more distance warning then any other(i beleive) but not by far...but v1 is very sensitive on the road and picks up alot of false alarms...

V1 All The Way!

I own both units, and I'd have to say that I like the V1 much better. The arrows do make a difference in making me feel less nervous since I have a better idea of where to look for the bogey.

On the same premise, I have owned both the Escort SRX (in my Z) and now the BEL RX75 plus in my G, and they were the same boxes, although the display on the BEL is nicer. I did like one feature on the SRX better, in expert threat mode, it would show me 3 KA, 3 K and 3 X threats at the same time with little meters next to the letter. The BEL will show me only the highest signal of each band, for example, KA9 k5 x2. The SRX would actually show me if it was a State Trouper because in FL, they run front and rear radar from there car, so I would see two signals.

Either way, the laser shifters have saved me twice in the past year on the turnpike.

And if size matters, my radar receiver in my front grill is bigger than most window mounted radar unit's entire size. If you look over the steering wheel, you can see my BEL display, everything else is hidden.
