Upgrading non-Bose HU: want to keep factory look
Upgrading non-Bose HU: want to keep factory look
I have a low VIN 03 sedan so I don't have the SAT button on my non-Bose HU. I want to have an AUX input available for either an mp3 player (not iPod) or a CarPC.
The only way to get an AUX input will be to change the head unit. I can either buy a stock HU that is non-Bose or Bose (and add an amplifier to the system) or buy an aftermarket one with the DD finisher piece.
If I choose an aftermarket HU, I'm not looking for a touchscreen one with Nav, just something like this JVC or this Kenwood. I would then need a PAC SWI-X as well as the finisher piece. All said and done it would cost me around $500 which isn't too bad.
If I went with the factory Bose I would have to install an amp (which I already have, a 5-channel) as well as the NIS2. Cost would be probably around $300 depending on how much someone will sell their old HU for.
If I stick with a non-Bose factory HU then I would only need the NIS2.
The Bose factory one would be the best bet if my amp accepts differential balanced inputs as far as SQ is concerned. I'll have to check my amp.
What does anyone recommend? If I do decide to replace the HU rather than just go with only a CarPC and no HU then I will be forced to put the LCD in the nav cubby hole.
