Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????

Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????
Been looking around and talking to some people and an installer recommended that I go with two 10W6v2s instead of a single 10W7-3. Point being that with a sealed enclosure the W6v2s will take give me tighter and punchier bass compared to the single 10W7-3. The installer explained that the long throw or excursion of the W7 limits the response of the W7 to react to very fast bass beats. Wondering if any of you out there who has a W7 can comment on this.
I mostly listen to Hip Hop, Trance, Heavy Metal.

Hmm... I was looking for comments and suggestions that is informative and educational. Although I respect your opinions, simply stating that a 10W6v2 is enough for me without any comparison between the two units and their pros and cons doesn't really help me make an informed decision. Wether I go with two W6s or one W7 the sealed enclosure volume requirements will be the same (1.25ft^3) minus the volume of the subs themselves which will need to be calculated. In terms of cost, the two W6 option will be more expensive. I do like alot of bass and no I'm not planning on competing in SPL contests, but I wanted something that would perform and be conservative enough to fit into my trunk without losing the spare.

Hehehe.. I'm assuming that you know Korean. :P
I usually listen to my music on medium to loud. Right now I listen to my music on the Bose at 10-15 volume level. Not sure if this is conflicting, but I like tight punchy bass for the trance and a bit of boomy roll for the slower Hip Hop tracks.

I heard that a lot growing up, and worse :-)
At those listening levels, either one will work fine. You won't be pushing either hard enough to notice a difference if any. I'd get the 10w7 and be done with it. It'll be powered correctly off the 500/1 and you won't be dissatisfied. You're ears will start to ring before you notice any difference in SQ between the two set-ups anyway.

i have a single 10w7 on a 500/1 and it sounds awesome, at first it was in a sealed enclosure but was suboptimal, now it is in a ported enclosure and I an very pleased with it.

Re: Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????
What effect does the ported enclosure afford above and beyond the sealed enclosure? I suspect a few more dBs and longer excursions? Wouldn't this increase the boominess and the roll? Great for hip hop, but how bout the ability to create tight and punchy bass for faster beats such as trance/drum 'n bass? I think ported enclosure volume requirements are like 1.5 ~ 1.75 ft^3? dunno if I can afford the space. Did you have your spare removed?

Re: Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????
you're absolutely right. Theoretically, a ported enclosure will yield a few more db's. However, it's usually at the expense of SQ.
One thing to note is that I've heard from a lot of w7 users that you really don't lose much SQ, if at all, going ported.
I'd recommend sticking with the sealed box.

Re: Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????
hhmm, the sealed box did have good SQ but felt restricted, like all sealed boxes do, they just dont have the output that ported does, i wanted my 10w7 to do all it could, and the difference in SQ between the sealed and ported in nill, i listen to all kinds of music, mainly rock, alternative, and some hip hop, the ported box goes much lower than the sealed, but handles tight fast bass notes also. i DID remove my tire, but the box i built isnt built to JL specs, i had some subwoofer software and played with dimensions for a few days and came up with a box that sounds great with much less airspace, so my box isnt really that big, you can see pics i posted in a previous post.
oh yeah, and my jl bass **** is turned all the way down. sounds much better turned up buts its too much bass for me, remember too that i have an aftermarket HU, no Bose.

Re: Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????
i was told that if you go for seal enclosure, make sure you get a powerfull amp.
I have one 10w6v2 with Phoenix Gold ti 800.1 amp. I listen to a lot of european dance music, trance, occasionally top 40, and vocal. Majority of the time, dance and european dance music are my choice. As matter fact, i think i have too much bass. I have my gain set at 1/8 on the samp and my digital processor ouput to -3db for the sub.
I listen music very loud too. So in my opinion, base on my setup, i think one 10w6v2 is good enough. IMO.
If you are in socal, go to the next meet so that u can listen to my car.

Re: Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????
unless the bose(clarion) head unit can spit out digital signal, then there is no way you can add a digital processor. Most head unit doesn't have that feature. I know only one head unit from alpine(cda - 7990) that have that and cost about 2000.
i know a lot of dvd head unit have an optical digital out. this is because so you can have a 5.1 dts/dolby digital setup.

Re: Single 10W7-3 OR 2 x 10W6v2????
Thanks for all the constructive comments and suggestions. Sounds like either sub will be powerful enough to provide more than enough bass for the regular joe. However, we're talking about our PIMP rides and if I remember my Pimpology 101 class and some of the feedback from this thread it sounds like the 10W7-3 will be da bomb sub to blow some panties off da hunnies.
