JL Audio 500/1 amp settings
For those of you who own this amp or is knowledgeable in car audio, what are your settings? I know mine needs some tweaking because I only hear certain bass frequencies. Any suggestions on where to set:
Preamp output filter
Infrasonic filter
Bass EQ
Amp Low-Pass filter
Input range

A good start would be to tell us what kind of sub you have, what kind of box you have (ported or sealed), and what the volume of the box is. You should also check out the JL manual. If you don't have access to a scope, you should use the digital multi-meter gain adjustment as indicated in the manual.

I have no bass boost at all (switch is off)...doesnt seem like I need it. I was thinking that the Infrasonic was a good idea since the 500/1 is way more power than is needed to power the 10w6v2...
also I have the input voltage set to low...and my lpf mode setting is at 12db increments instead of 24db...

That's some pretty poor advice. Gain is NOT volume adjustment. You are matching the input voltage from your HU, and preventing clipping which can cause severe damage to your speakers.

Yes the gain is not a volume adjustment, now depending on the situation though, going by the level matching is not always the best thing. A properly tuned "ear" can match a sub to an amp very well. The only time that I set up amps with the "proper method" is when I'm tunning an SQ car. Everybody hears differently and there for the same method does not apply to everyone. Never make adjustments that lead you to clipping of the amp and distortion.

yea definately not a "tuner" but I have a feel for what I would like it to sound like... I just dont have the experience fiddling with amps to get it how I want. The guy who installed the system tuned it really weird, with the front components filter set at ~120 hz, rear 6x9's at about 100 or so, and the sub at 85. The bass was so much i couldn't even hear the tweets half the time... :/
