I have a JL 300/4 and a 300/2 mounted to the front wall of the trunk. I have MB Quart PCE's in the rear doors, and a JL 8W7 in a JL wedge box in the trunk.

Here's a picture of the amps:

RacerX,

Thanks for the reply. Where did you get you Q series. I am looking to get another set and don't want to pay as much as I did the first time.

Thanks again,

John

I bought mine on eBay. At the time, the QSD's had just come out, so I got my brand new QM's for a little over $300. The funny thing, is that I couldn't find any "last year's model" for the coaxials (the PCE's), for my rear doors, so I ended up spending a little more for them than the QMs, also on eBay.

Yes. It's 1/2" MDF painted flat black. Since the front wall of the trunk is not a solid sheet of metal, and the amps needed to be mounted in a certain place, there was no flexibility in the location of the mounting screws. The mounting screws would not have hit anything solid. So the boards are mounted at solid attachment points, and then the amps are mounted to the boards.

While I have another pair of MB's for the rear doors, and a pair of JL amps; this was the first step.

Results?

The job was longer than I thought it would be, but basically pretty easy. First door took me about 4 hours, the second door about half that. I enjoy this type of work, so I took my time, and had fun.

The sound difference is a fantastic improvement, even with the Blose amp. The difference in clarity is quite dramatic. The total cost so far was about $400, and worth every penny. Read on if you want to see more.

Hey does anyone have the instructions of taking the front door panels off? The post had lost during the update of the site.

Question question...

great install, nice job! got a question for ya though. sayin' as to used mb quart q's and the 8w7, i suppose you're more of an sq guy than spl. so my question is this, how do you like the bass response of the 8w7? with it being way out in the trunk, does the bass have the impact that it should in the front? thanks for the help!
