MB Quart/Basslink Review + Pics

Hi Guys,

Upgraded my stock system last Friday in my G35 Coupe, here are the details and my review:

Front: MB Quart PCE 216
Rear: MB Quart PCE 164
Rear Deck: Disconnected
Trunk: Infinity Basslink
Amplification: JL Audio 300/4

Generally speaking, I LOVE this install! The Quarts are very lively, although on some tracks and types of music, I can see how some people would call them "bright". It really depends on the production of the CD you're listening too, which says a lot about the speakers if they can convey the nuances of the production values accurately.

The Basslink is great. While it won't knock pictures off the wall, I look at that fact as a plus. I simply wanted accurate, deep bass without sacrificing trunk space. You can tell from the attached picture that it occupies just a corner of the trunk, and not intrusive at all. You will almost definitely have to play with the Gain, Crossover, and Bass controls to get the sound to your personal taste. The remote is also indespensable when you have to quickly tweak the bass during a song.

If I had to point out any weak spots in my install would be the midrange drivers that are mounted by the backseat. It seems that they are slightly overpowed by the in-your-face Quarts in the front, and the Basslink in the back. But I'm not that familiar with car audio and the acoustic challenges that may exist in order for me to accurately place the blame on anything in particular. In fact, if anyone has any suggestions on this, please enlighten me.

This was probably about a $1500 investment for me, and it was worth every penny. I'm posting pics of the Basslink install, since everything else looks stock.

The remote is in the empty space where the Nav would've gone:

wow, looks very nice.

-How is the basslink attached? look like you did not use the supplied brackets for it.

-how hard was it to put the remote bass volume in the nav cubby? did you have to pull apart the center console?

Re: MB Quart/Basslink Review + Pics

redwillow,

I let the installers have it for a day - so I'm not quite sure how they secured it. I can tell you, however, that its a snug fit into that little corner, it may be possible to just push it in there until its secure (which I'm guessing is what they did).

They also handled the remote installation. I think it was a pain putting it there though because they barely managed to complete the install in a day. In fact, they were still placing the remote when I arrived for pick-up.

hey admonisher,
glad the install went well. You actually want the fronts to overpower the rears for a front soundstage and less interference/cancellation. Also, I think you can turn the tweeter frequencies down slightly with the crossovers for the components. I don't know where the guys installed the crossovers, but all you have to do is take the cover off and move a connector to -2 db or -3 db (I don't know what the choices are for that particular series.)

Wow. Congrats. The install looks sweet and very clean indeed. I love the way the Basslink takes up just a little corner of the trunk...It practically looks stock.

I may have to go back to my thread and ask Al some more questions now.

Great install! What settings do you have for the Basslink (Bass Boost, Gain, etc.)?

nihaoma,

My settings are:
Gain: A bit less than halfway
Crossover: Halfway
Bass Boost: Very close to off (I don't like the boominess)
