How much should this install cost?

I am getting ready to put a kenwood dd headunit in along with rainbow audio speakers and a jl audio amp... I have goten a few quotes but i was wondering what you guys believe an install like this should cost.. I should also mention i am planning on getting sound damping only to a few parts such as the doors and pack panels though.

Thanks,
Jon

I just left an Audio shop. i was quoted $475

Install HU
2 sets of 6.5 speakers
1 sub
2 amps.
Sirius Adapter

The $475 includes labor, steering wheel to HU wiring, and all the wiring for everything else. It seems kind of expensive to me, but it is the cheapest one I have found.

Note;

The dash radio kit is NOT included

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is the purpose of sound damping?

not necessarily rattles it reduces the road noise greatly and it also makes the bass sound a lot better

Body panels vibrate with sound and movement - road noise, bass, etc - and the vibration of the panels can cancel out the sound your speakers put out. Think of out of phase speakers cancelling each other. So a reduction in sound canceling body panel flax can equate to an increase in effective amplifier power and better bass response.

Wow, that's CHEAP ... almost too cheap, I hate to sound pessimistic though. What brand/model speakers, amps and HU are you putting in?

Sound deadening in the doors is crucial for a good install. Properly sound deadening a door can make an average set of components sound excellent. Reason is, the door is made of metal, obviously. The sound waves inside the door keep bouncing off the metal, and it cancels out frequencies -- this is a reason A LOT of people complain about lack of mid-bass in cars -- the interior doors cause a lot of cancellation.

One really knowledgeable person on one of the audio forums I visit says that you should try and make the environment in your doors the same as a home audio speaker cabinet. That said ... I do not know of any quality home audio speaker cabinets made of metal

So, the point of sound deadening inside the doors is to stop the sound waves from bouncing around inside the door and canceling each other out. Instead, the cancellation stops through deadening, and in result -- the music sounds much better, fuller, because you are listening to the entire range of frequencies.

I don't think I explained it as well as it should be, but search around on the internet, and some car audio forums -- deadening your doors is definitely crucial to a good install, and it's been proven.

Now I don't feel too bad about the labor cost my shop quoted me to install my stuff.

I just paid 800 to get my system installed at Ultimate Electronics

The trunk was already finished being custom built with a false floor and custom box and I already purchased all the speakers and amps and dynomat, they just had to install everything into the car

The 800 worth of install included:

wiring 2 amps (PPI 1000/1 and PPI 600/4)
wiring two subs and putting them in their box in the trunk (MMats 2.5 10")
wiring and installing the front door components (mmats 6.5")
wiring and hiding the bass **** for the 1000 watt amp in the center console
the purchase price and wiring of the 1 farad monster cap
installing my dynomat in the doors and trunk
(I installed the dynomat in my trunk lid myself)
all the top of the line monster cable wiring kits and amp kits and all that I needed
and he has everything hidden underneath the false floor so its all clean looking

I was very happy with the results, my car looks perfect still and you cant tell it was all taken apart. I think I probably paid a little more then I needed to but where I live it is worth paying a little extra to have the job done RIGHT

and the system works great!! It already broke my sunroof within the first couple days lol, good think the dealers covered it under warranty! =)

Hopefully that will help you with your pricing.....
