Finisher for Double Din
Finisher for Double Din
I have my entire radio out and I am molding gauges onto where the nav should be. I have the infamous CD player problem (04 w/bose), so its broken, out of warranty and expensive to fix.
I was thinking, since I have the finisher out already, can I just cut it out to fit the double din? Or are all of the holes for buttons spaced too far out so even if I were to cut the hole to the exact size for double din, there would be open spots on the finisher. Anyone have specs on the opening needed for double din? I'm assuming all double din radios come with a finisher of there own to cover the boarder, so my opening could be a little big if need be, is this correct?

I cut/dremmeled my stock DD finisher to see if it could adequately fit a DD HU in that space back in 2004 when I swapped out my stock HU. There will be about a >1/8" gap all the way around the HU and unless you fashion/fabricate a trim piece for your SD or DD HU, you will notice a pretty good gap.
I have pictures of this process on my external HD at work. I will post these pictures sometime tomorrow and show you what I found. I did post those pics back in summer/fall of 2004 on this forum but I don't know if it is still stored on the server. Maybe someone can search my postings to see if its still stored.

Thanks, I'd def be interested in seeing the pics, I thought since the row of sat, cas, fm, and cd buttons were so close to the a/c controls that the opening would have to be a little large to get rid of them completely. Does anyone have any ideas/pics on a finisher?
I was even thinking some kind of molding that has a grove, kind of like the rubber that goes around the heat shield that comes with the JWT popcharger. Something similar to that might work, but then i'd have to figure out what to do where it comes together.
Or maybe I could get a piece of colored plastic, and cut it to the exact size of the new HU and glue it on.
