Eclipse 8533 or Alpine IVA-900?
Hey fellas,
I knew swapping my dash/deck/ACC out wasn't going to keep me from wanting to tear apart my dash again. Don't get me wrong but I love my Pioneer HU. I am looking for an LCD DVD.
The question is which one. I have narrowed it down to these two. I know about the up and coming great Pioneer AVIC N1 but can't wait.
I can get the Alpine unit for a CHEAP price and new 2004 Eclipse model I can get for $1700. I know the resolution of the Alpine is supposed to be the best but I have heard of several complaints of the motor for the LCD screen burns out and has to be replaced early and often.
The "brain" for the new Eclipse DVD is H U G E! I don't think it would fit in the upper glove box. I think you would have to mount it somewhere in the trunk. And Eclipse only supplies 4 feet of wire to the brain from the deck itself. The Eclipse "wire" bundle extention cords is $99 MSRP! What a scam.....
How big is the IVA-900's "brain" and where have people mounted it?
Both Alpine and Eclipse's decks can be bypassed so you can play video while driving. Not that I would do something like that......
I need some input please.... thanks.

I also listed this post over at 6mt.net. I found out about another deck that is super sweet.....AVN from Eclipse!

That deck rocks for $2300! I might have to start selling my left kidney tomorrow....

Re: Eclipse 8533 or Alpine IVA-900?
hello: when i was waiting for my car today, the owner of the shop want me to check out the AVN, which he has in his car, i have not fully grasp the whole DVD, NVI fab yet, but i must say, i was truly temped, i like the touch screen thing and it will allow you to play NVI and CD at same time, things i dont like bout it, the screen is lil on the small side(6.5) and resoultion to me is lil muddy(lack of better word) and it cost is on the high end side, but i do like it, just have to do more reseach on it...by the way he will do 2500 installed, was 2300 you get from an shop or on the net?...s.w.

$2300 from a car audio dealer who works for some store. If the entire unit is housed in the doubleDIN and there is no "brain" to mount, the install should be easy. The only forseeable challenges would be to mount the gps antenna and the speed sensor wire for the nav. I think I'm getting it. I might have to sell some disposable stocks laying around collecting stock market dust. Or I'll have to sell one of my kidneys to the black market.

Re: Eclipse 8533 or Alpine IVA-900?
the IVA was my choice, mainly because I could get everything I wanted in one place . . 5.1 ready, flip up screen, detatchable face, xm ready, dedicated camera plug . . if you're not nav equiped, it comes with that too, you can't lose with AI net, mp3, dvd, etc. all in the same head unit and not to mention, I wanted to run components of the same company . . . hence the alpine headrest monitors and alpine TV tuner . . I mounted the iva brain and piggybacked the tv tuner under the passenger seat . . fits just fine, just put the rear floor mat over it and you're good to go . .

Re: Eclipse 8533 or Alpine IVA-900?
thanks for the info. So the brain does fit under the passenger seat without much problems. I don't get into the backseat all that often but I would hate for a potential passenger to get in and step on the unit under the carpet. DId you have to remove the passenger seat to mount the brain and run the wiring near the center console?
Does the IVA come with adequate cable length to reach from there to the deck?
Thanks again.

Re: Eclipse 8533 or Alpine IVA-900?
lol.
I think I'm going to get the Alpine IVA and skip the Eclipse AVN. You're right, I am kinda hesistant to drop $2300 right now. I can get the Alpine unit for cheap, way under retail price.....
I really want some Volks GT7's and those are gonna run me $2990 for the rims and tires.
Oh well....

Just make sure for those of you who are buying the alpines now that you get the iva-d901 not the 900....not any significant difference at all. but just a newer model, thats all. But I know personally I hate to buy things that are replaced by a new product.
