torn to shreds for auido upgrade/installation

The time has finally come to install all the new equipment in my G35. I dropped it off Tuesday and will be able to pick it up this weekend. I swung by today and snuck a few snapshots. Here's what I am having installed:

1. MB Quart QM218.61 components up front powered by a JL 300/4, bi-amped.
2. MB Quart QM218.61 components in back powered by another JL 300/4, also bi-amped.
3. JL 10W7 powered by a JL 500/1 custom install in the trunk (spare tire removed)
4. 10 Farad Phoenix Gold capacitor
5. Eclipse DVD-3101 dvd player (added to stock navi)
6. full bulk pack of dynamat

I am so excited yet wicked nervous. I knew it was going to happen but it was still a shock to see everything taken apart. I'll post more picks when i can get some more taken as the progress continues. Here's a few shots I had the chance to quickly take today.

Re: torn to shreds for auido upgrade/installation

hello: its nice to see that installer has taken the time to warp the fender and bumper, i have couple questions, first is there any reason that you bi-amp the speakers, beside that it will allow you to have more control for the vol? i had chance to do that but i decided angist it (extra cost and space)...second about the 10 farad cap(power grid?) isnt that lil over kill, i know everyone has differnt reasoning or taste, meant no disrespect, just wondering thats all...either way, the system should sound great, speaicly the w7...s.w.

Re: torn to shreds for auido upgrade/installation

limeg35,

You asked about bi-amping the speakers. I originally had 1 JL 300/4 for both sets of MB Qs. When I went to the installer they mentioned that the Qs are power hungry and that I would be better off going with either 2 JL 300/2 or 2 JL300/4. They went into a long explanation that essentially didnt make to much sense to me. They said the 1 JL 300/4 would work but they recommended either of the 2 amp combinations. choosing to bi-amp from what i understand has to deal with the crossover connections as well. Its arguable but supposedly bi-amp gets you "cleaner" power to the tweeters and drivers instead of branching off through the crossover. I wish I could help more with the question you bring up... I'll ask the guys to explain it to me further tomorrow and get back to you if they make more sense.

as far as the 10 farad. I was looking at what was available for caps for the prices that were out there. moster digicap was running 150-200. I read a lot of great reviews about the phoenix gold powergrid and liked the look of it. It came down to that fact that I could get a great deal on it so I hoped on it. I know it is overkill but for the price and looks of it I had to go for it. I got it for 215 so thats why I snagged it. no disrespect taken i posted cause i wanted comments from people.

Re: torn to shreds for auido upgrade/installation

i was wondering why didn't you go with a more cleaner 4 channel amp like the zapco or arc audio to drive you mids and high. I rather use the cross over that came with the component than using the built in cross over on the amp. for example MB quartz design that cross over specially for that component you have.

Well, maybe i am a bit old fashion. Just like home audio, good pair of speaker are base on the type of driver and crossover. You can have the greatest driver and the sound can be crappy if the company can't design the cross over correctly.

btw, how the w7 sound? i have the w6 and loving it.

my 2 cents.
