For those who are thinking about using your stock finisher as DD *pix*
Hey everyone,
Here are some pix of my experiment from summer 2004 of seeing if I could use my stock dash trim finisher for a DD conversion (after I had already done my DD conversion with the v35 dash trim). Anyway, I hope that this may help answer some questions for those thinking about doing this....
Stock dash
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5663/stockdashme2.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=517&i=stockdashme2.jpg"><img src="http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5663/stockdashme2.b60772cb3e.jpg" border="0"></a>
Penciled border and took measurements
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/273/measurementsfj2.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=518&i=measurementsfj2.jpg"><img src="http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/273/measurementsfj2.f5b74dae2e.jpg" border="0"></a>
Masked the dash and dremmel away...
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/7683/maskeddashnu3.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=517&i=maskeddashnu3.jpg"><img src="http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/7683/maskeddashnu3.4cf326e4d2.jpg" border="0"></a>
DD space created (eventually cleaned up with some fine sanding)
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/2060/postdremmelen8.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/>
Residual faceplate n (what should I do with this piece?)
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/765/residualfaceplategp9.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=518&i=residualfaceplategp9.jpg"><img src="http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/765/residualfaceplategp9.08e2b60a4d.jpg" border="0"></a>
Inserted a blank bracket which is about the same size as a single DIN HU
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/3417/blankbracketbg4.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=518&i=blankbracketbg4.jpg"><img src="http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/3417/blankbracketbg4.f640cf01fc.jpg" border="0"></a>
Slid the blank bracket down which reveals about a ~>1/8" gap
<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/2824/dingapgy4.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/>
I guess you could fashion or fabricate a trim piece or rubber border on the borders of the HU/dash pocket to cover the gap. IMO, it would be much more professional/stealth using the aftermarket DD dash piece or the v35 dash finisher from japan.
hope this helps...
