Aftermarket head unit with stock SAT-NAV?

I've narrowed down my search for a G35 to three cars. One of them has navigation. I know that the stock stereos in these cars tend to poop out from time to time, so I'd like to just throw in a new deck when I get the car.

However, is it possible to retain the stock navigation system when upgrading the deck? If not, I'll just get one that doesn't have it. It'd be better for me to have a reliable aftermarket head unit instead of a dead stocker with navigation.

I gotta have my music.

If it helps at all, the deck that I'm putting in is a Premier P880PRS.

Thanks in advance!

From what I've read, you can have an aftermarket HU with the stock NAV. The downside though is the sound from the NAV is integrated into the stock HU so you'll either have to deal with no sound or wire an independent speaker for it.

If you're going to go to the trouble of replacing the stock HU with a double DIN kit, you might as well get a double DIN head unit with navigation and not buy the car with OEM nav.

Yeah that's a good idea. I have the stock NAV and if I had to do it over I'd follow Gilley's advice and go that route.

That's what I'm thinking. I might just do that.

When I bought my G, I knew I would eventually change my headunit for a double din navi system so I bought a G without the factory nav. I recommend that route.
