How old is the battery, both to the OP and Corvettekid?
I am running a JL Audio 12W6v2 with an Alpine MRD-M605 V12 series amplifier running at 2 ohms. My power and ground cables are all 4 gauge. I am currently running the stock Bose audio system. My vehicles is a 6MT and NEVER have I had any issues at all with the car feeling unusual or any sort of dimming from the headlights/dash when bumping.
I am assuming you both have a 5AT? I myself have not done the "big 3", however, they seem to be a bit more beneficial to vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission.

You are pulling more amps than the alternator can supply. The fuel injection requires at least 30-40 amps, air conditioning 20 amps, lights, 10 amps.
Now how much does that amp pull at full output. I'll bet it's close to 70-80 amps minimum. Add that up and you have a problem. There is not enough power to open the injectors or run the fuel pump. The stock alternator is (I think) 110 amps, about average, but not big enough for this.
You need at least 3-6 farads worth of caps and maybe a second battery.

I m not an audio expert but IMO it has nothing to do with his setup being too powerful. There are guys on this forum that have 2 amp with a 1000+ watts running on a stock alternator and without a 2nd battery. We also have a few people who have the same problem occuring with 500 watt amps...My bet is something was not done correctly with the install...get a 2nd opinion from another installer and have him go back over the install to find out if the ground was done properly or if anything is shorting out.

Sooo, talking with my brother and playing with my car today. I have no bass going to my car due to a dead amp. My stations now come in CLEAR as day( a problem when the amp was in) and i have NO problem when turning it up. I think that the amp was going bad, and was struggling to keep up. Therefore it was pulling WAY too much power from the battery. I am going to hook up my brothers kicker 750w tomorrow, and see what happens. If it still acts up, its DEFINATELY the wiring, if not, it was due to a deadbeat amp i bought. Just thought id share some info.
