IGN wire

I'm trying to wire something to the IGN fuse so that it will trigger my device to come on when the car is started. Does anyone know how to wire to the IGN fuse. I looked at the fuse box next to the battery and the IGN fuse is one that I haven't seen before or worked with. So anyone have any instructions on how to do this? Pics would be helpful.

Re: IGN wire

Any reason you can't tap into the cig lighter or 12v on the passenger side?

Re: IGN wire

if you look in the fuse panel beside the drivers feet, on the bottom row of empty fuse slots, one of those is 12V ign, i think its one almost directly in the middle, check those with a voltmeter.

Re: IGN wire

Remove the 1 screw holding the knee bolster and tap directly into the ignition wire (black w/red). Try to avoid going directly to a fuse used by another device because it could cause it to blow when too much of a load is applied to it.

Re: IGN wire

that also is another option, although if you go to the fuse panel like i mentioned there is no fuse there, it is an empty slot so you can actually tap there and put a fuse in it. i didnt know SLVRG35s method.

Re: IGN wire

This method does work really well, but I would suggest you use an inline fuse... if you accidently ground this out you will blow a 10amp fuse in the engine compartment and you car will not start. Also, as I just noticed, according to the service manual the IGN in the ignition harness is only 10 amps!!!! You might want to use the IGN signal to turn on a relay connected to the main 12volt feed in the ignition harness (white/red I believe, 60A). I'm not sure what all is on the IGN circuit already, but I would imagine it's loaded up quite a bit, not leaving much room for additional electrical components. I did do a test the other day to see how much current that IGN wire pulls with the ignition on but the car not running and that was right around 3amps, with the a/c & heater off. (And yes, that is a hint that I am already working on remote sunroof control.....)

Re: IGN wire

The ignition wires are a great place for getting sources of constant/switched power. Just like if you install an alarm or remote start.
