Double din kit AC Controls Modify?

Ok, I did some research on the site, and im going to but the double din kit. What I want to know is, why do you need the replacement AC controls. Im an electronics engineer by trade, can I modify the one I have already?

also, do i need the bracket?,

http://www.grubbsperformance.com/servlet/Detail?no=2611

whats the bracket for?, Ive seen the kit for sale with it and without it.

I will probably end up with one of the newer Alpine, or Kenwood double din units.

Thanks,
Eric

i know you said you searched, but you probably didn't search hard enough.

you need the a/c control because the stock control is integrated into your radio/cd controls. they're all one piece. i'm sure you could mod the one you have, but it would ultimately be cheaper to just buy a new one.

i've heard both for the bracket. I was told that you can use the stock one, but your new head unit may not sit flush. others will say the opposite. i bought a bracket and everything worked good for me.

hope that helps.
