bringing this thread back from the dead.

here in VA radar detectors are illegal, so ive looked into something like this for a while. over in a BMW forum where they were doing the V1 mirrors as well they mounted the V1 unit inside of the middle rear headrest. apparently just as long as there isnt any metal surrounding the unit, the radar detector can be put into just about anything and still be just as functional as if you had it mounted to the windshield.. heres the link to the BMW thread btw... http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39...od-e39-m5.html

reading that when the mirror lights up, it can be seen from a mile away, kind of turns me off to the V1 mirror idea(once again radar detectors are illegal in VA and the last thing i need is for a cop to be driving behind me and see my rearview mirror light up like a christmas tree).

ive contemplated with getting the external display and mounting it in the ashtray(so that i can hide that away by closing the ashtray), but im still thinking of places to mount the V1 unit where it will be totally hidden from sight, but still functional.

yea I did the rearview mirror because they are not illegal here in Dallas....the display doesnt show on the actual radar anymore its placed in the mirror. If you want the display hidden from the Radar then just by the concealed display and put your radar into the back seat area like mine is mounted....just make sure you have dark windows and it cant be seen...

yea, if they were legal here in VA, i would def have a mirror made...but VA has to be ghey. im thinking about maybe throwing the unit in the passenger seat headrest, but that seems like too much work although a seat headrest probably isnt too expensive to replace. people in VA have also put them in their third brake light, but ours isnt big enough and sits behind the back seat. i just need a place where it will be totally concealed, without metal around it.

If you don't smoke to me the ash tray looks like a good place.

Since they are cheap I would get two of them, one for the back and one for the front. Mount them in weather proof enclosures outside the cabin.

I am tempted to just state to hide it in plain site. Put it in a gauge pod with gauges on either side.

Lets see you are in Virginia, are you not suppose to put it inside of a tissue box?

You still use the radar functionality but the display is built into mirror....confused on what you mean? That's why pics show it mounted in back glass
