Windshield HUD Speed Display

Rode in a friend's new Camry in Taiwan and it had the dealer installed HUD speed display which projects speed readings onto the windshield, sort of like the one in the new Corvette and other high end vehicles. Searched around the web and only found this one that does both km/h and mph.

Cost is about $100 USD. The website stated it's vehicle specific, and needs fine tunning after installation to reduce the speed discrepancies.

Has anyone tried something like this? It looked very useful in person, especially at night.

Many companies in Taiwan makes HUD speed displays, I might ask someone to bring one back next month to try it out.

After looking at the other thread I came across this item on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/G-Top-HG-100-HUD-51-Ch-MTK-Bluetooth-GPS-Receiver-Map_W0QQitemZ310019499864QQihZ021QQcategoryZ73357QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem
Might give it a shot since it's more convenient than getting one from Taiwan. Just wish the digits are displayed in green instead of red, because green would be easier to read at night.

You meant like this. It displays an RPM and speed.

After doing some research it seems that GPS based HUD displays are supposedly more accurate and much easier to use. Many are simple plug n play, powered through the cigarette lighter socket. Should be ordering one from Ebay in the next few days to try it out.

Are these HUD displays visible from outside the car though the windshield? Exactly what I need, cops sitting on the side of the road with binoculars reading off my HUD display (sarcasm)

I mean I am sure it's useful on the track, but I don't know about an everyday driver, especially at night where it seems it would be really visible.

Not sure how visible it would be from the outside. Will post pics including exterior view when I receive the unit in few days. I just hope the power cord is long enough, planning to route it by the driver side door, hide it down under the steering column, and plug in the driver side power socket.
