I have a second cord that isn't coiled up. It's placed right on top of the rear light bar. (I'm wingless on my coupe) Not the prettiest setup, but definately effective for long road trips.

My front detector also pretty much sits on the dash.

I'm looking at getting a fully integrated setup on another car... I've seen them in action and they'll put any dash/windshield mounted detector to shame. (although at about 4-5x the cost inc. installation)

I have my V1 about 3 months now and loving it so far. The V1 connected with the stealtcord which is plugged into the rear view mirror power source and the setup is seamless. Here is the link for setup pics for my g35.

i was always curious if tint affects the distance of your radar detector. i am guessing yes. so if 2 cars had the same detector would the one without tint would have a better range.

yup owned all three, and always went back to the escort x50....THe arrows dont mean crap becuase if you dont slow down no matter where its coming from your just asking for it. and the x50 has less flase alarms from my expereience. Also the v1 is 400 plus shipping I used to be a distributor for escort so I kinda favor escort since the price is right for me. the v1 just needs an upgrade, it hasnt been upgraded in years except for pop mode

The V1 is actually updated rather frequently...

I do have to agree that the arrows are pretty useless... Think about it. The detector module is in the front, so if the side goes off, you're already screwed =P

Uh no. The V1 has a front facing antenna and a rear facing antenna. I too downplayed the arrows until I actually purchased the V1. Since VA now have Spectre IV and IV+ statewide, VA residents only have 3 choices for radar. Bel STi, Bel STi-R and the Escort 9500ci. There is video conformation and I have physically scene the Spectre IV in an unmarked Dodge Charger on Rt. 66 in NOVA. Not to mention that there is a state trooper on radardetector.net that has one. After seeing the Spectre many times during my daily commute, I decided to purchase the Bel STi. I've had the STi in my car since September 2k7. I can without reservation state that if my V1 was undetectable by the Spectre, I would quickly put it back on my windshield. It's proven time and again to be the most sensitive radar detector made. I have taken alot of time testing both the V1 and the STi against 35.5 ka and k band radar from stationary officers. My particular STi outperforms my V1 on 35.5 ka consistantly by a small margin. My V1 however is tremendously more sensitive to off axis 35.5 ka and k band. Laser, well the V1 is so far superior in laser to anything currently available it's not even funny. The Escort 9500i is a phenominal detector. It is the 2nd most sensitive windshield mounted detector currently made. It has the best selectivity to real police radar and it has very few false alarms. The V1 can be programmed to mute k band until programmed thresholds are exceeded, but it's extreme off axis detection that makes it so great also makes it so chatty. In all the years I've been on RD forums, I don't think I've ever run into anyone that owned a V1 that thought the arrows were worthless. After owning several top end detectors myself I can say without reservation that the arrows are the best feature on any RD. It makes it so easy to locate the source of the radar. With my other detectors I find I am unable to locate the source most of the time and that drives me insane. The arrows are especially beneficial when an officer is approaching from behind.

Nope - the arrows are priceless: In front, radar is coming up a lot faster, so react quickly. From behind, more time, ease over and slow down so brake lights don't flare. From the side, likely a false alarm or a radar you don't have to worry about.

I've had Passports (7500 sucked, 8500 was pretty good), and the V1 is at least as sensitive plus the arrows, plus ability to program, plus in-chassis upgrades.

I downplay the rear antenna, because if you look at it, the rear radar antenna can only pick up so much. Look at the line of sight on the rear antenna. It has... the space between your seats available, with the rear windshield deflecting a lot of the radar away from the antenna.

V1's front/back capability is good for a single detector; it's the only one on the market. It's no match for having 2 actual detectors.

Radar doesn't require line of site. Most detectors have adequate rear detection from radar signals bouncing off road signs and other cars. The V1 gives tremendous rear range. The rear range is fantastic on the highway. The downside is it makes the V1 chatty as hell in areas where auto doors are plentiful. There is no perfect detector for everyone. If the 9500i was Spectre proof, I think it would be the closest to perfection.

I have an 8500 that has served me well these past few years. Is it worth it to get the V1 or is the 8500 still good enough?

I still have an 8500 too. No tickets the whole time I've had it, so it must be good enough. However if you look at the test results it is a good ways behind the tier 1 detectors. I guess it depends on how safe you want to be. For me....I have one on order
