Did you mean to say 9500i? Does the 8500 also allow you to lockout false alerts?

No, I meant 8500, but the Radar board works the same as the 9500. The only difference is the GPS lockout system and maybe a few upgrades.

If you drive in an area that had LOTS of false alarms, I would go with the 9500. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind either of them.

Oh crap, I just read somewhere that if you have the tech package in G, the laser that's used the cruise control and pre-crash seat belt and stuff will set off your own radar detector (and other people's radar detectors too)!!! And that the laser is always running even when you are not using the cruise control. Anyone care to comment about that?? That would be a bummer ...

Yeah, I have had my laser detector go off for "no reason" quite a bit lately. I don't think it would mess with YOUR detector, just others. He He!

With that thought in mind.... would a "Blinder" system mess up the "Intelligent" cruise control?

Some guy on Car and Driver was saying that the laser used in the tech package reflects back to your own car, which sets off the radar detector. If anyone who has experienced that, please speak up. Thanks!

Why do you say that? You can undo/unlock any of the inputs you tell it...not sure how I lost you on that?

This is why I said that there is no simple way ...

If I understood it correctly, in order for you to be able to "undo" the lockout, you have to be on the exact same location where you performed the lockout, with the exact radar signal. So let's say that you accidentally locked out a police radar that was next to a door opener, which was what you inteded to lockout to begin with. You realize later that what you locked out the wrong signal. You go back to the location. The door opener is still there, but the police car is no longer there. Is the 9500i going to allow you to "undo" the lockout of the police radar, even though the police car is no longer there?

I suppose the simple way of doing things would be for the 9500i to allow the user to scroll through all the lockouts available at a particular geographical point, and just delete them without having to have the same radar signal there.

I am still leaning towards the 9500i, because I hate false signals. I suppose I'll just have to be careful before I lockout anything.

It's weird how there are Youtube videos saying that it's (9500i) got issues, and then someone else posts another video saying that it doesn't have issues! Then there's also a video in Youtube about GuysofLidar testing being allegedly sabotaged by someone named Craig Peterson. Almost like a soap opera!!!

Not sure man, I just got the thing. And I thought I over-analyze things before I buy them!!!

Perhaps the way to avoid doing what you described is to have your settings to display the Expert Meter Mode....it's a setting where once you get a signal/alert, the readout shows all the X, K & Ka band names and beside them, there are bar graphs. Taken from the manual: PASSPORT’s ExpertMeter simultaneously tracks up to 8 radar signals. It provides detailed information on up to 2 Ka-band, 2 K-band, and 4 X-band signals.

http://www.escortradar.com/pdf/9500i_Manual.pdf

So if you have this set up this way, you'll know not to lock out a signal/false alert if there are MULTIPLE alerts...make sense?
