I want to do something like this, for my 350Z. I want to connect this to the lid switch for my laptop based car computer. The two laptop leads should have continuity (the computer thinks that the laptop lid is closed) when the lock signaI is sent, and open when the unlock signal is sent. I made the diagram from the post above, and I think it should work, any comments?

Is there any way I could do this more simply?

87A is a normally closed contact, so when the relays are 'off' then the switch would be closed. That seems backwards to me, but it would depend on the wiring of the laptop.

The lid closed has the two leads shorted, so i think it is set up the right way.

Is this the simplist way that I can accomplish what I am trying to do?

 

yeah, it should work. However, keep in mind that this is a VERY basic solution. For example, once you trigger the first relay and the system latches ANY time you hit the lock button it will shut down the laptop. You could throw in another relay to sense ignition to prevent the laptop from 'closing' when you lock the doors while the car is running.
