Is this possible w/ bose? Or have you tried this?

Hello all... noob to this forum just got my 03 coupe last Saturday.

What I have gathered from reading is that in order to put in a dd setup that a jdm or metra dash kit is needed.

I have done a few custom setups in my other cars and wanted to know if anyone has tried to cutout/modify the factory bose dash kit to accept a aftermarket dd head unit. I understand that the bose hu and ac contols share the same board correct? Could you just remove the factory hu and keep the board for ac controls or is the board connected to the hu?

I have not pulled it out to see what it looks like from the backside.

Thanks Kenny

There was a post a while back where someone cut their dash for a dd opening. Basically if you were to cut out all the buttons the opening would be a lot bigger . It is possible but it would not look very good. The a/c controls are connected to the radio circuit board. So you cannot use the old one with a DD finisher. The DD kit consists of jdm ac controls (around $220) and the dash trim (around $50). I got the whole kit from Riverside Infiniti for $280 shipped.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

It isn't really worth it especially for what you would save. The most expensive part of the kit is the AC controls.

I thought about the same thing but the JDM kit is alot better and it's less of a PITA. People are selling theirs on here all of the time. Of course it's because they sold their G. Plus the kit comes with separate climate controls. Unless you're an electrician by trade or a master solderer I would spend the extra couple of bux and get the JDM kit.

+1 for JDM kit. Metra has ugly buttons, though it retains the dual climate without modifications. i have a JDM kit with a Z2. love it

Yeah, I had a friend with the Metra kit here in town, he saw my JDM and was like "wtf how come your buttons look so much better" yeah...it is that noticable a difference. If you want a clean look get the JDM.
