AVElectronics Install
Anyone have a good thread for an AVElectronics nav tuner install. Im getting after it this weekend and I would like to read up on it so I can expedite the installation process. I have plenty of experience, it is always easier though to see what others have done. Any pics and/or instructions would be sweet. Thanks - Rob

I recently did a AVeletronics box install and found a thread on this forum about a "NAV bypass switch" which had pictures of the disassembly of the glove box area. This was VERY helpful. I think this is the link to that thread.

Once the glove box area was apart, the hardest thing to find was the RGB connector. Simply because I did not know what it looked like. Go to AVelectronic web site and proceed to "links". Go down to G35 and look at link #3, in that series of pictures is a shot of the RGB connector located behind the passenger side cigarette lighter panel. It's picture #9. Here is the link.

Those two pieces of information were the most helpful for me in getting my unit installed. Especially finding the RGB connector. I looked past it in my car a dozen times before I found the picture of what it looked like. It was not how I was expecting to look and not where the "techs" at AVelectronic told me it was.
Most people install the AV box behind the passenger side kick panel, it fits nice there.
A couple of other things to note; You must buy an antenna splitter at a local stereo shop or circuit city type store. It allows you to split the signal to the input of your stereo head unit so you can use both the car antenna feed and the AV box antenna feed. You need two. One male/female and one female/male. There is a brief description of it with the the AV directions (if you can call what they send you directions . . . kind of weak if you ask me.)
You must also ground the "parking brake" wire from the AV box to make the system work.

Something else to keep an eye out for. When I hooked up my AV box, I noticed the colors on my NAV maps changed (DVD movie colors were fine.) Streets and markers that were red, were now green . . . and visa versa. Turns out someone at AVelectronic did not solder up the red, green wires correctly inside the AV box. I switched the red and green wires at the RGB connector and now everything is right again. But keep an eye out for things like that. Hopefully it was just a "one off" mistake on my unit.

Great reply IMO.
I have sold a good number of these AV units (including those for other car makes) and I have never heard of the sodlering being backwards like that. Interesting, and good to keep in mind.

I have sold a good number of these AV units (including those for other car makes) and I have never heard of the sodlering being backwards like that. Interesting, and good to keep in mind.
