AVIC-N1 installed

Finished installing the AVIC-N1 today. Here's a finished pic. Much easier taking apart the dash the second time.

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

If you're installing it yourself, the only important part is to connect the speed sensor wire to the white/green wire off the brown connector. Thanks to Vitaliy Sokolov for the tip. The connect is found behind the radio.

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

Hiding the wires from the seperate unit to the head unit was pretty easy. You need to unhook the driver seat (just 4 bolts, pull up on the plastic covers, they clip on). There's a large hole. You just run wires one by one from there and you can stop at the small hole where the seat bolt is. From there go from the carpet opening above and you can reach the wire you have sitting at the hole (see the three circles above). Just do it one by one and it's not too bad.

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

Here's a look at the double din with both the AVIC-N1 and my old Pioneer head unit (which I'm only using for playing mp3 cd's so I can avoid swapping nav and cd with the avic-n1, you need a ip-bus adapter to connect the Pioneer to the AVIC-N1 seperate unit.

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

Here's a shot of the back and all the wires you have to fit in the small double din area (I ended up stuffing it in the small area below, which is behind the change tray/hazard light). I only had to cut one wire for the remote antenna connection. Used the orange twist caps I bought from Shuck's auto supply for connections. Used the Nissan antenna adapter and Nissan wire harnness from my previous install.

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

Final shot with GPS showing. I ended up mounting the gps antenna in the rear next to the 6x9 speaker. Didn't actually need to stick it on as the corner window spot is pretty snug. Just ran the wire around the edge of the rear seat. Didn't hook up reverse signal wire yet as I couldn't easily find access to the reverse light assembly, but it may just be used for the rear camera, which is an optional accessory I don't have. Sorry, no pics of the rear. As for the AVIC-N1 itself. It's a pretty nice unit although this is my first nav unit so I don't have anything to compare against. I only wish it had some spectrum analyzer for the display.

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

If it makes you feel better, it took me half a day the first time. And another 4 hours this time to install the nav (mostly due to hiding the wires). Of course, I like doing this stuff so it was time well spent.

Next up is new speakers. Most likely Infinity Perfects.

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

Nice install. So, if I'm only going to have the avic-n1 and leave the other din empty, what adapters do I need to pick up? You mentioned the Nissan antenna adapter and Nissan wire harnness ... am I supposed to get these too?

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

Nice install man. Don't have the patience for it here! Fortunately I live in a part of the country where they don't price gouge!!! Getting similar setup except for the Pioneer
CDS-P4000 to play the CD's... first timer with Pioneer here... usually a loyal Clarion HU consumer so we'll see.

Will also have pictures when install is complete

Re: AVIC-N1 installed

You only need the antenna adapter and wire harness regardless if you hook up one component or two (since the other would be hooked up through the primary one).
