Amplifying Question
Amplifying Question
What's the best amp setup for an '04 coupe? I'm thinking of getting an Alpine IVA-W505 head unit, new speakers and 1 sub to replace the existing Bose stereo and speakers.
Is it possible to use 2 four-channel amps, 1 for the front and rear door (4-channels) and 1 for the rear deck and sub (2 channels for rear deck and 2 channels powering 1 sub)? Is this possible?

i would get a alpine pdx 4x150 amp. i would put the deck and rear speakers on the same channel and i would get a pdx 1000x1 amp for the sub i have had the type x subs great but it really takes up to much room in the g35. i think i would get all type r from 6.5 for front and rear and a 10 sub for the rear.
think the 4080 box is great as i said i would get a 4 channel amp put the two front on the front left& right channels of the amp and then i would put the rear seat and the rear deck on the other 2 channels. i would not go out and buy a bunch of amps. or i think mtx makes a 5 channel amp for all your speakers and a sub.
It is not necessary to replace the front speakers, rear side speakers AND the rear 6x9s in a coupe with the Bose system. Since the 6x9's are the system's subwoofers, most people seem to replace the rear side speakers and remove the 6x9s to allow more bass from the trunk to enter the car. This also makes the system less complicated to wire.
A five channel amp and a 4080 enclosure would be ideal. I used to have that setup in my coupe and it worked very well. It's easier to hide a single amp that way.

Like Gilly said, you really don't need all new speakers and amps pushing them, I only replaced my front speakers and added a sub, it made a night and day difference. I got a 300/2 and a 500/1 amp. To answer your question it would depend on the amp, some amps allow for some channels to be bridged and some to not be bridged, I'm not really sure 100% which ones would allow you to do it.
wanna say beforehand sorry if i push SQL :-X but its up to you really
where i come from people replace fronts
removing rears to allow more bass in..... trunk should be completely sealed off from cabin. anywho not very possible with a coopay so remove if you'd like
you can power all those speakers if you'd like your way is fine. but theres no need to power your rears, you mostly likely won't and shouldn't hear them anyway if you want a proper sound stage
buncha alpine and jl fans around ere lol

I was about to start a new thread, but I figured I could just add on to this one. I have a 06 sedan with the stock non-bose HU. I buddy of mine just put a system in his 350z, and after hearing it, I wanted to upgrade mine. I want to add a sub to start with. He's got an extra 12" kicker sub that he didn't end up using. As far as enclosures I thought this one would work well [URL="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-06-Infiniti-G35-Sedan-Sub-Box-Subwoofer-Enclosure_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2 el1262QQcategoryZ38647QQihZ019QQitemZ290152207453Q QtcZphoto"]
What I am not clear about is the amp selection. From what I've read I need an amp that can take a speaker level input or use a high to low converter to change the speaker level to RCA. I'm thinking a monoblock 500W should be more than fine to push a 12" to make me happy.
Also, do most people use the antena amp signal to turn on the sub if using the stock HU? The HU doesn't have a "remote on" and after looking at the service manual this looks the most promising. I just hope this signal is active while playing a CD as well. THe other plus is that the wire is already in the trunk because that's where the antenna amp is.
My last concern is the best way to get the speaker wires to tap off the signal. The BOSE setup has all of the wires in the trunk, but for the non-bose I have no clue where to get that signal from except for taking one of the rear doors apart and splicing there.
Any advice any of you can give me will be really appreciated!

I don't know if the antenna amp is on when playing CDs. you could tap into and find out. Some people have the amp turn on with the ignition switch so it's always on.
To tap into the speaker signal, you'll have to tap into the signal before it enters the rear doors or behind the radio.
