I'M SO MIFFED *(&!@#)(*
arghhh sorry guys, but i just got back from the audio shop today, i had my system installed.... the guy who worked there brought the car out to me, and said there was something wrong with my amp, its an alpine mrv-f407 4 channel amp, anyways... he says the red protection led keeps flashing on and off, he said something was wrong with it... i mean my components work and stuff, but when i turn em up loud to around volume level 10-14 for like 5-10 minutes, the highs cut off, and it goes back on...
and so on the drive home, i checked my amp settings, and the gain for it was all the way up, i was like wtf!!?! maybe thats why... so i turned the gain all the way down, but the red light stills flashes, im not sure what it means, i checked the manual and it says that when it flashes red, means an RCA Float? not sure what that means... and to top it off my wiring is a mess, its multicolored, red, green, orange, blue, the ends of the amp wires and speaker wires were just cut and not even pronged... i waited like 8 hours for this kind of install!??! the guy drilled 3 holes to ground my amps, when he could of just simple did one... not a big deal, but when it comes to my car im picky about every little detail... i have 2 amps, one for my components and one for sub, and the way they wired the power, was he just cut one end off the power cable for my alpine amp, and made it touch with the other power, kinda like a Y.... and he taped it together with duct tape... not sure if you guys know what i mean... it just looks very unprofessional to me, and not sure if that has any effect on the red light on my alpine amp flashing on and off...

oops, i forgot to add, the passenger side door also rattles every time i shut it, of course i didn't notice this until i got home...
you would think that after they're done they would properly tweak and fine tune your amp settings, gains, crossovers, but no, they just turn the gain all the way up, and didnt even bother to test to see if sounded good or anything, i had to tweak it myself when i got home... i also mentioned to the guy to bridge my components, they didnt even bridge it, wtf is wrong with ppl these days, its so hard to find a good installer that you can trust these days... i can tell you im never going back there ever again... i wish i knew how to do this myself, or else i would... sigh, im so mad and upset right now... i was so excited to get my install done, but after what i went thru, its not even enjoyable to even listen to music in my car without thinkin about what a crappy job they did...
dont get me wrong, after i tweaked out my amps, my system sounds really good, but the thing im really upset about is, the door rattling when i shut it, the way they wired my system, being the wires look cheap and multicolored and dont even match! and how my amp keeps going into protection mode, but yet im still able to hear my highs and mids just fine... which is odd, and the fact that they cant listen to simple instructions like me telling them to bridge my amp...

Just a tip - The subject line could be means for banning on the site. You should edit if possible.
I have installed quite a few amps in my time, and I can tell you that if you have a poor ground, this can cause the amp to start clipping as well. It could be a matter of a loose ground/poor ground - or it can even be a short of your speaker wires somewhere.
You mentioned that they just cut the wires... Check and see not a single little strand of wiring is 'touching' anything its not supposed to. It may be possible that the (+) lead on the speaker connection is poor (and braids are loose) and touching the amp chassis... A positive lead from the channel and a (-) lead shorting it is always a bad sign. I have seen many amps do what you explain, and shorting of some sort is usually the culprit.
Also, your amp may clip if they are driving the wrong omage speakers... For example, if the amp is driving a heavier load than its supposed to (ohm wise) - the amp is going to have to stop it someplace. Clipping is an almost sure sign of that as well...
Good luck!

Re: I'M SO PISSED*(&!@#)(*
well this is what i do know about my alpine amp and my boston acoustic pro components...
the bostons are 3ohm speakers...
and the amp is
Bridged into 4 ohms at ................................160W, 0.3% THD
so that does make sense what you say about how my highs shut off once in awhile when i play it really loud, even tho, those bostons can handle up to 400watts
about the grounding, how do you know what a good ground point is? they used like a 6 or 8 guage wire for my alpine amp for the ground and power wire... in my old car they used both 4guage... not sure if this makes a diff.... well anyways im gonna have them take a look at it again monday after work, sigh what a waste of time, they should've gotten it done right the 1st time, they even took there time, i didnt rush them or anything... dont know why the installer couldnt prong the ends to all my connectiosn... instead he just cut the tips and you sell all the metal wire strands... sigh....

Re: I'M SO PISSED*(&!@#)(*
What kind of shop did you take it to? If you PAID someone to install your amp and they used duct tape I seriously don't think I would take it back to them to fix it! I would find a good, professional shop that take the time to do a job fitting for this type of car.
Just my thoughts...
