jl 10W6 durability?

I have a 06 sedan with a JL 500/1 amp and JL 10W6V2 sub and was wondering with this setup if I need to be concerned with overdriving the sub. I have the amp tapped into the signal coming from the Bose HU before it hits the amp in the rear. I have the input sensitivity and the gain turned all the way down and the sub is still very loud, I have been turning it up from time to time with the remote bass **** and I was wanted to know how hard I can push this setup... My sealed box has a volume of around .7cuFT which is right around what JL recommends. When listening to bass heavy songs there seems to be a lottt of cone excursion and I want to know if this is something that this sub can handle for extended periods of time.

Thanks

I have been pushing my 12W6v2 hard for a few years and have never had issues. I have always been feeding it about 500 watts in a ported box.

my 500/1 + W7 setup works great, i pretty much used to beat it everyday for about 3hrs a day, although i am on my third W7 since i don't beat it as much it seems to be perfect.

I think earlier glue issues have been fixed so the newer JL subs should be good to go! if anything goes wrong your authorized retailer should take care of it. GO AHEAD, ENJOY BEING BASS KING!

As long as you don't play a distorted sound through the sub for extended periods of time you should be fine. Any amp can blow any sub with abuse, so it's really all about keeping the volume and distortion in check.

I blast my 10w6v2 with a 500/1 all the time, no issues at all.

if you see it clip (like P poppin) or make a popping noise then turn down gain other than that the sub will take 500w all day

I have the same set-up and I heard it popping the other day. What was happening was the woofer was hitting the grille cover until it eventually pushed it out completely.

I have a 1000/1 on a pair of W6's and they have held up great.

In fact I have owned ~30 different JL subs over the last 14 years and have been impressed with almost all of them. The older 10W3's had a few issues but that's about it.
