Audio shop screwed up, what do i do?

I bought a JL 10W6V2 with a JL 500/1 amp and took it to a local audio shop to have it installed. I told them to splice into the wiring harness to get the signal from the rear speakers BEFORE it hits the bose amp in the back. I thought this is what they did and the setup worked fine for about a week or two and now my sub is no longer working. Note: I asked them to disconnect the original 8in sub in the rear deck, which they did.

I took apart the trunk and noticed they spliced into the wiring that goes to the disconnected sub in the rear deck. This would be AFTER the amp if I understand the wiring correctly. Is this bad? Is my amp totally burned out? What do I do?

I disconnected the RCAs from the amp and connected an ipod to see if the amp still works. When the ipod is turned all the way up I can hear bass but its not nearly as loud as it was before (I dont know if this is just because the output from the subwoofer signal was much stronger than the regular ipod lineout)

Since the sub seems to work with the ipod, does this mean they somehow burned out my bose amp? Everything works fine for the rest of the bose system...

What do I do!? Thanks

I already spoke with them and they said they would look at it but im wondering if something is burned out? It seems odd that the amp works with my ipod but not with the signal from the bose amp... any thoughts?

Unfortunately, they took a short cut and connected to the Bose signal after the Bose amp. Doing that shouldn't hurt your amp or sub, but it will affect your sound because the Bose amp is: 1) a cheap design and 2) imparts its own EQ to the audio signal, which you don't want.

The shop should fix it completely because they did the complete installation.

you probably have a fried line output converter, happened to me on my first system ever like 8 years ago. same deal, i had it in a lexus, spliced in after the amp and stopped working soon after. they are cheap anyway, like 20-30 bucks for a 2 channel

No line out converter was used...if they did the job properly like I asked them to, they would have spliced into the low level differential balanced signal before it hit the bose amp. The way they set it up requires them to use a LOC but they didnt... Now what?

Any idea what burned out?

If they didndt use a LOC, what did they use? Spliced rcas? If they didnt install it correctly, i'd print out the DIY on adding an amp and subwoofer on here, and then take it in with you.

They just spliced into the harness that goes into the 8in stock sub in the rear deck. This is obviously AFTER the bose amp. I told them 100x to splice into the harness coming from the HU BEFORE it goes into the bose amp in the back but they didnt do that. Is it possible that the signal from the bose amp goes to the sub is dead?

Like I said before, I can get some bass out of the JL amp/sub if I connect an ipod which leads me to think that the signal from the bose amp isnt working anymore... What do you guys think? I really hope they didnt fry my JL amp...

Only way to find out is to take it back and have the shop take a look at it. If there is something blown out, I'd take it up with the shop and put the blame on their bad install...Hopefully things work out
