Motion detector w/stock alarm?

Has anyone or does anyone know if a motion detector can be installed with the our stock alarm system?
I thought the Coupe had a motion detection system from the factory......but I was wrong...

Has anyone attempted this mod?

Re: Motion detector w/stock alarm?

Somebody posted a site that sells motion sensors and what not for stock alarms. I don't have the link in front of me but if I remember when I get home I'll post it. I have it in my favorites on my home pc.

Re: Motion detector w/stock alarm?

not a "motion detector", but I installed a shock/impact sensor.

I suppose a motion sensor/ proximity sensor could be installed using the same method.

Re: Motion detector w/stock alarm?

Thanks to both for your replies.....
I feel it is necessary to have this installed....If someone tries to jack up the car or breaks a window to gain access the alarm should go off.....

I will look into this modification.....thanks again...Dennis

Re: Motion detector w/stock alarm?

i'm saying that the shock/impact sensor i used will go off if the body of the car is hit, bumped, moved or impacted significantly. I believe it will also go off if the windows are broken, although i haven't actually smashed out my window to try it.

Re: Motion detector w/stock alarm?

Most shock sensors will not detect glass breaking or tilting of the vehicle. The technologies used for glass breaking (frequency) and tilt (mercury) are different then shock (vibration). It is possible that if the window is hit really hard the shock sensor will go off, but, due to the insulation around the window it cannot be counted on.

On to your question...

ANY sensor that has a (-) out can be attached directly to the cars security system by using a few cheap diodes. You can either attach the (-) trigger the the hood pin, door pin, or trunk pin. Just remember to diode isolate them! If you hook it to the door pin whenever the alarm goes off the dome light will turn on, so if the car is visable from your window you will be able to see in it. Obviously only one stage of the sensor will be recognized (alarm state).

One of these days if I ever find the time I am planning on creating an interface that will allow the 'warn away' stage to be recognized by the factory alarm and for it to honk the horn and flash the parking lights a few times. I think this will be a very benificial mod and make an aftermarket alarm unecessary, as long as you got a G like mine with exceptional remote range!!!!

Hope this helps

On mine, if you barely bump the window, or the car, it will go off (see the link above for my mouting location/sensitivity setting). Now consider how hard someone would have to strike the glass to break it.

Anyone who has the sensor installed with the sensitivity up will tell you, there is no way you are going to jack the car up without triggering it. Again, on mine, just bumping the car with the jack would trigger it. Much less actually jacking it up.

Install it and see for yourself.

"Now consider how hard someone would have to strike the glass to break it."

you can use a spring center punch to break the glass and it won't shake the car enough to set off the shock sensor unless it it really sensitive. Also jacking up the car can be done without setting off the shock sensor.

Re: Motion detector w/stock alarm?

I don't doubt this at all with the sensitivity set that high. But, these are also the cars the alarms that usually go off when big trucks drive by or when lighting strikes

Shock sensor sensitivity is a personal preference, and my preference is to NEVER have a false alarm so my sensitivity is always set so that if my alarm goes off I know that someone has bumped my car. In my 5+ years of alarm installng I've turned down way more shock sensors then turned up due to customers who 'change thier mind' on how they want them set. I guess what I am trying to say for best protection use the appropriate sensor for the appropriate protection. And, remember if someone REALLY wants your car they will get it!
