Sometimes caps don't help much at all, especially if they are cheap ones. Also, caps can/do go bad, again especially if it is cheap or not properly charged when it is installed. I've owned some that seem to completely cure the problem, then I've had others that seem to do nothing at all. The right way to fix the problem is to get a better battery and a bigger alternator. If the amp, lights, heater, AC, etc is drawing more current than the alternator can produce then it won't matter how big the cap is, it just won't fix the problem.

That is my current setup, i have no capacitor and i get no dimming even on 30 volume on stock head unit... i do get door lights to dim if i have them open....
when i had 2 12 l7 kickers in my other car i had a 1600rms watt amp pushing them i had dimming till i got a i think 1.5 farad cheap cap, and i had no more dimming issues.
so from that alone id say take it back and have them fix it since there shouldn't be any dimming at all with a little 250rms watt amp pushing a sub or regular speakers.
