New Tach anyone?
New Tach anyone?
During my drive today, I came to the conclusion that I need to have a external tach. The Tach's current location is really affecting my driving. Has anyone installed a new tach? Where did you mount it? Did you lose much visibility?
There are like a million different tach's on the market anyone have any sugestions?

I'm just curious.. how does the stock tach affect your driving? I'm getting a visual of the tach needle jumping out of the dash and thwacking you on the nose.

Haha!! You are not driving a Civic remember. No matter where you place another tach the original will still be there, so I don't understand why you wanna waste your money. But to each his own right?

Re: New Tach anyone?
i want an external tach just to help me with my rev matching and shift points... My hand positioning when im driving, leaves me very little visability of my tach. It might be the way im sitting the placement of my hands or a number of other things, but in order for me to pay any sort of attention to the tach I have to lose complete visability of the road. So the point of an external tach is just to help my road visibility.
I dont know about you guys but i certainly like to see the road when i drive.

Get a smaller tach with a stand and stick it where everyone else places it. Near the pillar and to the left of the stock gauges on the dash. If you place it there, it's less noticable, but will probably still make you look away from the road. If you really drive standard you should be able to hear when to shift, unless you are racing all the time and need to see where redline is.

You must use your ear as your tack!!!
In other words:
You must become "one" with the car.
It's kind of like Chevy Chase said in Cattyshack. "You must become the ball". "Be the Ball"
Or like Uncle Ben: "Use the force Luke, Use the force"
Just my two penny's
Go forward Luke

Re: New Tach anyone?
im mainly looking for redline. I have only 1400 miles on the car and have only really drive hard a few times since "breakin period" so i still havent gotten used to red line shift points of teh car yet.
I definately dont want to mess up the interior of the car. If I could I would make this thing only visible to me, trust me. But im so new to the car i need a tach somewhere in my line of sight of the road.
I think maybe even something as simple as a shiftlight would make me feel more secure with my redline shifts.
As far as everyday rev matching goes, I am noticing that i pretty much have it down, just from feel of the car. so....
DONT FREAK OUT GUYS!!! im not trying to turn the car into some hunk of junk... just trying to make myself feel more secure

I think you'll get used to it soon enough. The rev limiter kicks in at redline anyway, so your engine's protected if you miss, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Or, you could always mod your hood to incorporate one of those tachs that sits out in front of you in direct line of sight!
