Keeping Ipod plugged in?

I have an 08 G35 with the factory Ipod integration in the center console. Is it okay to leave the Ipod plugged in all the time? I ask because I'm not sure what the system does as far as charging the Ipod (if it does) or whether the Ipod's battery drains when the car is off. Would someone explain how the factory Ipod system works in this regard? Thanks!

The ipod usually turns off by itself after a few seconds of not using it. Its in the ipod settings.

Be carefull

Leaving your ipod, even covered from direct sunlight, will wear out the lithium battery from the heat.

I take mine out whenever I remember but do leave it in the car from time to time and it's hot here!

The factory power is switched so you don't have to worry about running the battery down.

Like stated above, the concern is the heat. Even with dark tint, sunshade, parking in the shade, etc cars get pretty hot.

However, with all of that, I've kept my old 40gb in my car for a year and a half. The battery is good considering the ipod is 4 years old.

Does the Zune share the same connector as an Ipod?
