Sound dead doors dynmat and foam and new speakers

This soud deadening project is as time consuming as everyone says it is but the results certainly are great. First you can see the "B-Qiet" sound deadening material followed by sound deadening foam. Spray adhesive was used for the foam.

The MDF spacers are sealed with paint and silicone just incase they ever do get introduced to water. I removed the bose speaker and put in a 5 channel pdx amp mounted in the factory location. The head unit is an Alpine IVA W200 with Nave and bluetooth.

I'm very happy with how this door project turned out. the tweeters were a pain though and I had to do some buchering with a dremel to make the fit.

Now that I have the amp hooked up the other factory speakers have improved 200%. The factory amp is the weak link for sure.

My problem now is what size of subs to put in the rear deck. I decided to go this route to save space and I"m not looking to shake the neighborhood.
6.5 inch JLs would certainly fit easily. 8" may offer improved sound though but will require a little more modification.

Anyone have info on replacing the 6x9s with free air subs?

It's a pretty popular swap with the GTO crowd, replacing the factory 6.5" subs with 8" aftermarket subs. There is some info on ls1gto.com about it on those cars, the basics of what subs to use etc. could be found there although the install would be different for sure.

From what I've heard older W0 or W1 JL Audio 8's work well in that application.

Do what most G owners do. Remove the 6x9s and leave the grills. Then, get a 10" sub box (take your pick) and you should be able to drop a 10W6 or something similar to make your trunk thump. BTW, nice work on the doors! You'll need the same treatment in the trunk if you will be putting in a sub.

Good luck!
