Placement of Garmin/XM antenna for Kenwood DNX8120

Garmin and XM has teamed up to produce an antenna to receive XM radio signals, Nav traffic, and Weather information all in one package (Garmin GXM 30). The problem is that the antenna is 3 inches in diameter...kinda huge...Anyone have experience placing this thing in or on a G35 coupe? It needs a view of the sky so placing it in the trunk isnt an option. I looked all over my G and I can't figure out a suitable space.

I don't think and sat antenna will work if placed in the trunk.

you just have to remove (carefully) the child restraint latch.

Is the cable provided with the GXM 30 long enough to go on the rear deck or do you need an extender? Thanks.

Extension depends on mounting location

The antenna itself has a short lead, about a couple of feet, and the extension cable is about 5-6 feet long. So if you're planning on mounting it somewhere in the back of the car, a longer extension is probably required. You just need a Mini USB Extension for the desired length. You can find them all over the net.

I installed the GPS antenna for my DNX5120 behind the clock, there's a lot of empty space back there. Maybe yours will fit in there. The nice thing about hiding the antenna back there is that the plastic of the dash doesn't interfere with signals, and there's no visible antenna anywhere.
