RBC Install - Ashtray Question
I'm looking to install the Remote Boost Control for my JL 500/1 amp in my ashtray. I was able to pull out the inner plastic piece of the ashtray with no problem but does anyone know if removal of the entire ashtray is possible without removing the center console? Call me lazy but I've got no other reason to remove the center console so I'd like to leave it well enogugh alone and just snake the wiring for the RBC behind the dash by hand.

Pop up the silver finisher over the gear shift and it will come right off. The ashtray is attached by 4 screws in the back and some wires for the hazard and the light.

Get a small flat tip and pry up on the "rear" end of the silver finisher around the gearshift. This will give you access to the ashtray.

i have a boost control for my rockford amp...but didn't feel like running the wire.....do these boost controls even do much?

I have a Directed Audio 1300w 5-channel amp, and its boost controller manifests bass levels from virtually none to way too much! If you listen to the same kind of music all the time, you could just set the boost controller where you like it, and leave it in the trunk. If you listen to all kinds of music, you should probably mount the boost controller within easy reach.

TrentaCinque, thanks for the directions. It's 4:00AM right now (EST) and I JUST finished. I popped the metal trim surrounding the gear shift **** out of place. I couldn't figure out how to remove the wires and how to unhook the shift boot (nor was I in the mood to), but when I put it in 4th, I was able to wiggle the piece around enough to access the 4 screws and remove the ashtray, lol. Anyways, I got those stupid coins out of there (two pennies and a quarter). Needless to say, it was a lot easier putting everything back together than taking it all apart for the first time. Thanks again !!

Rofl, I did it because every time I opened/closed the ashtray, I would see those f*ckers chilling down there at the bottom, and the ashtray was dragging against the coins just a bit every time I opened/closed it. The effort involved was certainly not worth 27 cents, but I am gonna keep it !!!
