switched power to mirror?

I installed my radar detector using mike's mount and a stealth cord. Love the combo(except the mount messes up the auto dimming feature on the 9500i).

In any case I notice the 9500i stays powered on while the car is off. I said to myself, "you'll just turn it off each time." Not happening so far. I keep leaving it on. When I park in public I take it down and put it in the console, but when in a secure area I keep leaving the dang thing on.

I left it on all night last night and the car started just fine but I would really like the mirror power to be cut when the car is off. Best way to do this??

thx

I don't know how to cut the power, but I have had a radar detector up there since about April, and I leave it on just about every day unless for some reason I'm parked in a place where there's K or X band around where it's going nuts.

I haven't had a problem with my battery, as a matter of fact, it reads almost exactly the same voltage now as it did back then.

So if your really worried about it, then you can figure out how to turn the power off, but it's really not a big deal.

I may be diving into this, but I don't know much about the wiring scheme, but is it possible to wire a relay or on off switch?

As mentioned, I don't know much about it...the relay seems more like a better way to go since it will only come on when the vehicle is turned on.

I think so, not quite too sure. I know some audio guys use relays. I havent used one myself but thought it might be a possibility

Well there will be times when I don't drive my G for several days. That may not matter as I only have one radar detector at the moment, but if I get a second for my other car then it will matter... My other car also will have the same rear view mirror as the G. A relay would be nice.

This is one reason to run phone wire into the fuse panel. I wouldn't want to leave my radar detector on all the time simply because it attracts attention of thieves.

Did you hook it up to the right wires? I am using the invisicord and it cuts the power to the detector when I turn off the car.

hmmm I thought there was only one way.. The positive lead is in the wire closest to the driver seat. the negative is in the middle wire. The 3rd wire closet to the passenger seat is not being touched.
