I think "in glass" antennas can be engineered to work fine, the Harmon Kardon system in my Saab had absolutely incredible reception with it (which may be why I notice it so much now). I could travel almost all the way to London (100 miles) and still pick up Toronto stations quite well, at least as far as Ingersoll (80 miles), on the highway. Haven't tried the trip in the G yet but pretty sure it'll pale considerably.
