Sneak Peak - Fiberglass Enclosure

Sneak Peak - Fiberglass Enclosure
Here's a sneak peak of my latest mod... A custom fiberglass enclosre utilizing the wheelwell space in the rear of my G sedan. The whole job should be completed tomorrow. The sub is a Fosgate P3 15"... I can't wait. Having trunk space was important to me, and this whole setup should only raise the floor a few inches over stock.
Everything is fairly lightweight also, adding maybe 5lbs. over the spare tire which is now history.

Oh my ... a 15! That's going to be downright scary in this car with its acoustics. Sweet!
I thought about laying my 10"s down into the well horizontally like that, but decided against it because I didn't want stuff in the trunk to lay ontop of the sub. What are you going to do for a grille? Please post lots of pics as you can take them, I'm very interested to see how it turns out!

Re: Sneak Peak - Fiberglass Enclosure
It should hit like a "*****". LOL. I rarely put stuff in my car, with the exception of the car cover which will have to stay at home now. The shop is making a plexiglass cover that will sit several inches above the sub. It will be removable and is just for protection.
I also replaced the mids and highs with some Alpine's and an amp. I got to listen to the stereo without the 15 hooked up and MAN, what a difference. I never realized just how shatty and paper thin the stock mids are in the G (non Bose).

Re: Sneak Peak - Fiberglass Enclosure
I would say damping is going to be key to getting quality bass that isn't interrupted by constant car body noises/squeeks/rattles. I'm using a JL 10W6V2 (10" sub) at 500 watts and am having to chase down rattles, you can see the trunk lid vibrating from the outside when played at a little more than 1/2 volume.

Totally agree, rattle is the biggest enemy to clean bass. I'm surprised at how little rattling I get. There's some small one that come and go on the rear deck, but for the most part it's pretty rattle free. Much better than most of the previous cars I've owned anyway. I caught my homelink/mirror rattling once but it hasn't done it again yet.
