Compatibility 03 and 04 HU

Is this true? I know I read on a post a while back that when u get your head deck replaced they will only put in an 03 head deck because the new ones are not compatible. Is this true?

I don't know about compatibility, but my service advisor did confirm that they will not put an '04 head unit in an '03 car.
