This is kind of a rudimentary way, but when I constructed my spacers, I just used some silicone to seal it directly to the door. Makes a 100% air tight seal. It will be a PITA to remove later, but I'm not really concerned right now. I'll probably just tear it out when that point comes around. I have good midbass with my HEX's.

Well, I use foam waetherstripping tape from Home Depot, but the seal between the back of the speaker and the spacer or the back of the spacer and the door is not my main concern. I'm worried about the front of the spacer-speaker stack meeting the back of the door panel where the foam tape is around the grille opening.

you can remove the window control panel and install the door panel back in place and check the fit..........here is a shot of mine and the speaker/foam is touching perfect!

Thanks everyone, I decided to use the bose speaker mount and just fabercated it to fit my boston pro's. I only had time to hook the right side up and it sounded soooooo much better. Thanks for the tips, I can't wait to hook the other speaker tomorrow.

I have cut the door panel flat (almost) from the inside, used 2 pieces of wood, either 1.5 or 2 inches total (sorry forgot which) to bring the woofer closer to the door panel. I can't say which way is better but it is a different solution to think of .

I also used a lot of foam between the door pod and the door and a little between the door pod and the door panel. All I can say is wow what a huge difference! I was disapointed at first with the sound with just the 3/4 mdf mounts I had no midbass but now it almost sounds like a little sub is in the car . Let me know if you have any questions good luck. Oh, I'm getting the doors dynamated on monday so it should sound even better then.

Good advice. So foam weather stripping between the face of the speaker and the back of the door panel should work well enough to get the sound into the cabin?
