I've owned the escort 8500x50 and I currently use the escor 9500 with the gps technology.. I thought the 8500 was ok but there were too many false alarms.. the 9500 however works well because you can program out all the false alarms by locking the locations where there are false alarms.. the 9500 also tells you which band they're using.. say you get hit with a radar.. the radar will say "k band" or it will say "x band" etc.. i like the 9500 for those features but my brother has a V1 and to me the V1 has a better signal strength.. it can pick up radars from farther away.. it depends on what you're looking for.. i like the 9500 because it has way less false alarms but the V1 is stronger..

just drive speed limit.... I got my valentine 1 in May and since then i've had 2 speeding tickets within a 30 day period.... I learned my lesson, with todays technology the radar isn't going to do anything. All the police officers in my general area are using laser and instant on radar, so by the time you hear the beep its too late....

oh yea, but on LONG road trips i would rely on the V1 (since i usually drive late at night when there's less traffic) The police officers probably wouldn't be using laser then b/c they would have to be outside their car holding the gun...

the best way to buy the escort 9500 is to use the 12 percent and 10 percent coupons they always send in the mail for bestbuy..

escort is pretty good but overpriced and overrated. the very best out there is the BEL Vector 995. It performs as good and better in some cases than the Escorts and pretty much has the top ratings of them all. I have one I've had for a couple years and I've never had a ticket with it. Works awesome, check ebay.

The shifter thing I'm not familiar with... what's that all about? I may need to change my opinion after hearing this.

If you really want to be protected...

Step 1: Get valentine 1 (www.valentine1.com)

Step 2: Do research on a good jammer (jammer freaks or something like that)

Step 3: Pay attention!

V1 will warn you but the jammer will error out his signal. Slow down and turn off jammer so the next hit he does registers, but at a safe speed. If you don't turn off he'll know you have a jammer. and pay attention so you don't get paced.

Enjoy

jammers only work at a distance... so if he waits till you're fairly close the jammer won't work.... notice on all the videos they used the laser 100's of feet away. But when it gets to like 300 ft, they can get the speed...

Jammers take inputted signal, and sends out error signal...if the signal makes to the car, it will be transmitted out. Certain angles a cop can use to get around jammer...but not distance.

Since Beltronics makes both the Escort and the BEL radare detectors, they are probably very similar inside.

I agree, Radar detectors are a good thing to have, but something you can't really rely on all the time. On long drives, my x50(with the xband turned off to eliminate false alarms) has warned me well in advanced of almost every single cop. And it will pick out the cops that are trying to catch you via speed traps, but in the city it might be too late with all the potential signal interferences.
