I'm going to my local Sound Advice to see how much putting in a new head unit + front speakers + 1 or 2 subs in the trunk would run me.

I've seen some really good installs but I'm having a hard time digging up the posts that have them posted.

If anyone has a custom install in their trunk if you could just post here (if you have it posted in your ride site) or post actual pics I would thank you a lot.

 

you do realize to put in an aftermarket head unit you need $400 dollars in dash and AC controller parts from Japan right?

I asked my sound advice what they would charge to do the dash swap and they estimated around $500.. just an FYI...

I guess I took it as you were basically calling me a noobie by insinuating I didn't know the dash would be ~400.

If the shops are going to try and rape me cost wise I'll just hold off on a system and get either rims/exhaust.

 

if the shop tries to rape you, I would run

if they try to rape me physically.... depends on who would be doing the raping .............. lol

I don't think Audiobahn is junk in any way. "That's Ignorant" (Like MJ on Southpark) A friend of mine has Audiobahn Amps and 2 15" subs in his Tahoe and his system sounds really clean.

I will post pics after the weekend when my system is completed. It is about 90%, but needs a few finishing touches.

I ended up doing a fiberglass enclosure with 1 15" where the spare tire used to be.

I recently got an Eclipse hideaway DVD player (DV3101) installed. Pics of that are yet to come.

 

Calling audiobahn junk is in no way ignorant. Have you opened one of their amps up? Have you compared its sound to other amps on the market? Have you tried speaking with the "customer service" department? Not only do they have no clue about the products they produce, they also use some of the lowest quality parts on the market for their equipment.

High markup and low quality parts equals a waste of money imo.

Any car audio manufacturer who uses excessive amounts of chrome instead of spending the money on quality internals is a bad company imo.

If i say it's junk, its because of facts. If my comments were "ignorant," that would imply they were based on opinions rather than facts. That is simply not the case.

Pretty much every car audio enthusiasts will agree that audiobahn is not a high quality manufacturer. After using tons of equipment over the past 5 years, i can honestly say that audiobahn is in the bottom teir of car audio equipment in terms of quality and performance.

If in fact you have done the comparisions i have and have used different equipment for comparison purposes, then feel free to post your opinion. If you have not, then please dont refer to my comments as "ignorant." Just thought i should clear that up.

And would I be wiser to save money and just use the stock head unit?

 

I'll be honest: Would an aftermarket head unit be better? Obviously.. but your looking at least 700 ($400 for dash + $300 mid quality headunit) and I'll be honest..changing the speakers and amp using the LOC and the OEM HU is a remarkable difference.. you'll hear sound you didn't know existed when compared with the bose... just my 2 cents.. I WILL eventually do the dash and radio..but in the mean time (read:year or so) it should do nicely.

I think im going to go that way. I worked my *** off last summer to get the money for the system and im not blowing 700+ on a head unit to look pretty/snazzy.
