2004 Cupe 6mt dash removal

Hi,
I ordered an Ipod kit and I was searching for a DIY guide on removing the headunit but could not find anything for the 6mt Coupe. I downloaded the guide by Docron1 but not sure if anything is different for the manual, do I need to remove the shifter and if so is it just screwed on or attached someother way. Also I want to have my ipod in the cubby hole above the stereo, is there space behind the stereo to mount the ipod adapter itself? Is there a complete guide for a 6mt car, I have searched for a couple of hours and besides Docron1's guide haven't come up with anything usefull.

I've taken apart my center console several times on my '03 6MT. Where is Docron1's guide? I can let you know if it's missing anything.

The techniques are very similar between the manual and auto trim pieces. Once you get started following Docron1's guide, you should be able to figure it out.

here is docron1's guide http://www.mediafire.com/?54yyjuuxjjn

my main question is on whether I have to take off the shifter, and if so how do I go about it.

Yes, you will definitely have to take off the shifter to get to the center console.

You may want to start with step 3 first, and use a plier to hold the shift rod in place while you unscrew the shift ****. Depending on how tight it is, unscrewing the **** might unscrew the shift rod from the transmission.

Puff

One thing you left out of your guide (one I used by BTW, 5 years ago) is to grasp the shifter from below with something like vise gripes. This step is necessary so that the shifter rod doesn't bend the linkage if the **** is really tight, as mine was.

Cover the **** with something to protect it against any pliars or you will need a new **** too.

Thanks for the advice guys, I installed the ipod today. I had the shifter shaft held in place against the seat with vice grips and was able to unscrew the shifter by hand.
