1)did you do anything with the wires to prevent them from rattling/making noise, I wrapped mine in soft foam when installing my ipod adapter but I had far fewer wires.
2)resistors are measured in ohms and not watts.

 

I zip tied them and shuved em tightly in compact corners. there is no rattle at all. good question tho

 

very nice write-up!! I wanna change my eclipse DD to the Z3 also now...but i'll spend the $200 for install because I'm too lazy to do it myself...congrats!

 

sorry to revive the thread, but
1) Where did you put the GPS antenna? I think i missed that pic..
2) Is there any steering wheel control module that does not require soldering?

 

No idea on #1 but evidently a good place is near the stock location under the clock trim piece.

As far as #2, for an OEM integration unit... nope. Soldering in this situation really isn't hard once you try it a couple times. If you'd rather not deal with it, have someone with experience help you out.

 

how much room did you have for the actual radio unit?

i know you had a ton of extras, im installing a kenwood 8120 so it will be just the unit and a mic

so after I ran the gps antenna wires along the door pannel i continued up the window behind the rubber spongey material that waterproofs the seal. then up ontop of the roof above the passenger's side door.

 

all of the extras that I put in (bluetooth, xm radio, ipod etc...) were all tucked behind the glove box. the only things behind the actual unit itself were the wiring harness, antenna adapter, and the steering wheel controls. so, you will probablly have to fit those behind your kenwood 8120 as well. but it wasnt TOO tight, just gotta find little nooks and cranneys where u can tuck them back. I would reccomend cutting the wires to the appropriate lengths so u dont have any extra taking up space, and zip tie em so it is cleaner and easier to fit. It will help A LOT having all the wires tied up in a clean bundle rather than loose and messy.

 

*****UPDATE****
I just moved the gps antenna (was origionally run along the passenger door and stuck on the roof). I removed the passenger sun visor and pulled down the cieling hadliner. An AMAZING spot for both the gps antenna and the XM radio antenna. They are 100 hidden (no more magnetic antenna on the outside roof of your car) and they still get good reception even though they are hidden underneath the headliner carpeting. Just wanted to share that update with everyone.

 

We ended up hiding my antennae right in the dash. no problem catching the signal.

 

I put my GPS antenna onto the metal bracket from the radio that screws in just below the analog clock.

I had issues with the steering wheel blocking the microphone at the location pictured when I did my install. I ended up routing it through the front pillar, under the headliner, and came out right between the sunglass compartment and front windshield. In that location, both passenger and driver can give voice commands to the head unit (Pioneer AVIC-F90BT).
