how do a/v inputs work with nav?

if you want to let someone watch a movie using the a/v inputs is there some type of special procedure that you have to follow? i've tried to use my video ipod and a portable dvd player for my aux sources. the sound for each works fine but i don't have a picture. if i leave the aux on for thirty seconds i get a message that says video will reappear once the vehicle stops but i never had a picture in the first place. can someone help me figure this out?

It might help to say what car you have. I assume it's a 07-08 G sedan.

To watch video the car has to be standing still (no signal on the VSS wire going to the navi unit) and the parking brake input has to be on (parking brake input to navi unit must be grounded).
