Unhappy Annoying audio problem

Hey guys - long time reader, first time poster and, recently, first time infiniti G35 coupe owner.

I just bought an '04 G35 from a private seller (46k miles) and one of the negotiation points was an audio problem with the CD player. I'm hoping someone has had this happen before and can help me diagnose what's wrong; here goes:

When driving, the radio/tape player plays fine. The CD player on the other hand...when I hit bumps, brake, or turn the wheel, the left audio fades out on both the front/rear speakers. This ONLY happens with the CD player and nothing else. Far as I can tell it's all stock equipment. I've taken the driver door panel off just to look at the speaker and everything looked fine. I checked the Amp in the trunk and all connections where seated (wiggled them around also but the audio did not cut off). Replaced fuse (grasping at straws) but no luck. The only "easy" test I haven't done was try different CD's (so far I've only used home-made ones).

Anyone had this problem before?

Welcome to the forums. This is a common problem with the head units, and should be replaced by the dealer under warranty. I had mine replaced at the dealer a few months ago. If your warranty is over, you can still give it a shot at the dealer, sometimes they'll do it out of "goodwill". Otherwise, look for a used working unit in the marketplace or upgrade to double-din. Try searching the audio forums. Good luck.

^^ 2005-2006 head units won't fit in 2003-2004 without some major modifications

Thanks for the welcome and for letting me know this is a common problem. I suppose I'll try a dealer first but I don't have much faith. What exactly is a double-din?

^ double din is a video screen deck
for example the IVAW200 by apline...thats a double din screen

there are a lot of different dd screens out there, and all have a wide price range...in my opinion...i would go with an aftermarket dd screen
a lot more features are available with it, such as navigation...movie/music video player...ipod interface....back up camera....the list goes on...its a very good investment....you can always keep your stock parts if you plan on selling the car in the future and just swap them back in

Update...

Took my G to the dealer last week and within 2 minutes he told me the HU needed to be replaced and when I asked how much, he replied "NOTHING".

I haven't asked why it's covered yet but after I have it installed and signed for, curiousity might get the best of me....

It's covered because more than likely it's under warranty. Factory warranty is up to 60k miles.

The radio is under the 5/50k one. Unless you got the extended. I got mine replaced then sold it while it was worth something. I got DD now

Ah, yeah I got the 60k warranty. Didn't know there was anything else besides it.

I have this same issue, I have found if you smack the side of the console the left audio side comes back it really works but it should not be happening.

I am not the original owner, car is an 04 with less than 50K, should I see if infinity will replace it? Last time I tried to talk to them about the tire noise issue they wanted nothing to do with me.... I have an extended warranty through carmax but it will cost 50$. Not that its a lot of money but if the dealer will do it for free they might know what they are doing more than carmax?

I would say go back to the dealer and see if they'll do something about it. If not, try another dealer. If you're still in the warranty period, I don't see why the are trying to avoid you. Seems like bad customer service to me.

Yes that was my impression as well. Maybe I'll try another one.
