rear components?

Hey guys is it a big deal to have components in the rear of a sedan. I see a lot of folks here are putting coxials in the rear and components up front. First off, I don't even know the difference between the two, and are there any drawbacks with using one or the other. I already have 2pairs of Polk 6500 components to be installed. I really don't want to spend more money on stereo stuff. Advise pls.

The difference between components and coaxials is this:

Components: They come with a passive crossover which you may decide to use, or you can go the active route using the head unit's EQ or a designated processor as an EQ. Also, the mids do not have tweeters, rather they are separate.

Coaxials: The mids have tweeters on them. There are 2 ways, 3 ways, and 4 ways, possibly more. 2 way coaxials are plenty and anything more than that isn't really necessary and IMO more of a marketing scheme to make the buyer think it's better.

In my honest opinion, I'd leave the stock speakers in the rear. Personally I won't be using mine, I'll be disconnecting them. Rear speakers are used as "fill". They can also be used for the people in the rear but in my previous car I never had rear speakers and the front ones were easily heard from the back. People actually didn't know I didn't have speakers in the back unless I told them and they were shocked. I leave them out, because it pulls away from the soundstage and rather the music being there in front of you as if an artist was singing to you on a stage, you hear the music more to the side or even from behind you.

You can mount the SR6500s as either comps or coaxials. One test noted very little difference in their performance and sound staging. If you already have the speakers and an amp that can provide 125-150watts to each speaker, go for it. If you don't, you can save a little by going with one quality amp for the front comps and leave the rears empty. I am running the Polks all the way around and am pleased, I have adjusted and tuned them various ways and don't feel that having the rears added or distracted either way. Since I already had the two sets, there was no harm in tossing them in.

Ok thanks guys. Those Polks do demand a lot of power, hope my RF 750X 87.5 X4 will be suffice. Not wanting to buy another amp when i have one at home that was previously used in my maxima
