Computer "crash" on 08 G35 with Nav?

I have posted this before, I am just curious if anyone else has seen this...

Often, when I start my car that has not been started for a while, the Infiniti logo simply hangs there for about 30 secs or so, then I see this:

Radio is on, but can't change stations, no nav, backup camera works, air works... etc...

If I stop and restart it, nothing happens. If I drive for about 15 mins, then start and restart it, it works. Sometimes, I have to do this a couple of times.

I noticed that this happens more often if the radio is tuned to a Satellite station when I turn it off as opposed to an FM station, but it did seem to happen a few times with FM as well. When on tuned to XM it will pretty much do it every time. On FM, about 25% of the time.

Took it to the dealer and they ordered a new AV unit for me.

I wonder if there is a "hard reset" on these systems to restore them to their defaults.

Anyone else have anything close to this?

i have had this same problem numerous times. not only does the center stack freeze up, i cant roll down/up the windows. its just a crazy problem. when i first bought the car back in feb, i had a problem with it at like 600 miles on the odo. dealer didnt know what it was and told me to bring it back if it happened again.

the very first time this happened to me none of the electronics worked not even the steering wheel. i was on the freeway to the dealership and i get to about 2 miles out and the car reset. the steering wheel moved back away and the seat moved back as it does on exit of the vehicle. was a little nervous especially since i was going down the road.

OK, so now the computer is completely busted... will not return to normal any time. The part is still on back order.. every time I call the parts department, they tell me that that part is on back order... it has been 4 weeks... WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? 1 more week? 6 months? I have no radio, no nav... very frustrating. It has been 2 weeks. Today, I was desperate, I unhooked the battery for an hour, hoping the system would reset... no luck... the whole car reset but the center computer was still locked up.

What are my options? Just sit and wait for the part to arrive from Japan on a row boat? Go to another dealer? This is really annoying... I almost wish I bought a crappier car so that I would not have this aggravation.

Why a 100k extended Nissan warranty is a good idea if you wish to keep the vehicle beyond 59,999 miles.

Well I finally got this fixed... so far.

Basically after getting frustrated with the dealer and only getting voicemail instead of an actual tech on the phone, I called Infiniti corporate.

During the prompts, it asked if I had questions about the nav system, I selected it. As it turns out, when you do that, they forward you to Zenrin, the makers of the Nav software.

The tech ar Zenrin was SUPER nice and even gave me his email and direct number to follow up on it. Here is the story about our new HDD nav systems. In the past, people got DVDs with updates. Today, you have to go to the dealer to get it updated. The process is as follows.
1 - go to Zenrin.com
2 - buy the update for something like $190
3 - get a coupon (probably via email of something)
4 - take that to the dealer and they do the update for you there... he would not tell me how they do it, but I suspect it is probably through the CF reader.

Anyway, back to my story. The tech at Zenrin told me that it seemed that my car got an update process that was interrupted and therefore preventing the system from functioning, just as the message suggested. He told me to try and convince the dealer, that rather then replace the part as they were going to do, do a full update on it and see if that fixed the problem.

The dealer told me that they were not going to do that, and that it was out of my hands (in a way) and they they were told to replace the part, which at that time was still on back order. Being frustrated, as it seemed that a simple 5 min process of pluging the CF card into the car could solve the issue, I tried to find another dealer that would help me. Right at that time, the part came in and the original dealer told me that would replace the part.

Tired of fighting the issue, I brought it in, they replaced the part, and indeed the car seems to be functioning as it should.

The dealer then told me that it was a very strange issue that Inifiniti corporate took an interest in it. This could end up as a tech bulletin.
