audio experts, opinions on HERTZ subs and equip

just heard a hertz 10" compared to a jlw3 in similiar boxes with the same amp and the hertz sounded way better. the amp was a 300w jl. i would get the jl slash 250/1 with the sub, but this was just for comparison purposes. thoughts on the hertz brand?

No thoughts on the brand. Do keep in mind that every sub is going to react different in different boxes. This has a large impact on the way the sub will sound. Most seem to want to throw subs in the smallest enclosure recomended by the manufacturer. This works but is usually not ideal for sound quality or output.

+1 on Clear_bra. Enclosure can make or break a sub. Likewise, you should try and listen to the sub with as close to a matching amp as possible. Plus or minus 50 watts may not seem like a lot, but can make a big difference in how sub sounds.

well, the sub is rated at 300w and im guessing that slash 250/1 puts out a decent amount more than 250, so would that be ok? and i understand about the enclosures, but it was purely to compare the two, i wanted to hear the difference in subs with the fewest variables affecting the sound, ie box and amp. but no thoughts on the brand?

or are you saying the hertz may sound good in what was there, but may sound like crap in a 4080?

I believe Hertz speakers are made by the same Italian company as the high-end Audison amplifiers. Hit up member caskyline. He runs both Audison and Hertz in his show car.

hertz is IMO not on the same league as JL, JL makes reltaively mass market, decent stuff, while hertz is a more highend italian brand.

but, as mentioned, the install, the tuning, the car's interior, everything, plays a part into how a certain sub sounds at a certain time...so dont be so quick to judge. i hav installed nad heard both...and while i do consider hte hertz (assuming a higher line?) a better SQ performer than the w3, good results can be had with the JL as well if you install it right.

JL speakres on the other hand, are definerly very nice stuff, and i say this despite being a rep for two brands that are in more or less direct competition wtih them.

and yeah, hertz and audison are both with eletromedia.
