List of aftermarket GPS Navigation that will fit in cubby and be "closeable"
Want to fit something like a TomTom/Garmin/Magellan into the cubby of my '06 sedan.
I'm leaning towards the TomTom One XL, does anyone know if this will fit in the cubby while keeping the cubby lid closeable without removing the GPS?
If anyone has this fit information on any of these devices from any mfg please post so we have a list of what fits and what doesn't. That information isn't readily out there.

I have a Garmin 750 in there and it's VERY easy to do. The door closes and opens without a problem.
Really the best one to do it with are the Garmin 700 series for several reasons:
- Flat back to attach well to the door.
- You don't have to use the cradle, you can charge with USB.
- USB charger connector on bottom so it won't impede mounting.
- External antenna connector (it has one)
- Antenna connector is on the very bottom
- Speaker is on the bottom
I've tried the TOM TOM and it's not great because the back is curved. Also, the mapping on the Garmin is just plain better.
You will want to also get a Gilsson powered antenna since you're mounting it in there. I'd say you lose about 30% of the signal with the GPS so low. Just get an antenna and mount it on the rear deck of the car (by the third brake light) or I mounted it in front of the clock under the dash panel (that's the stock location.)

I just saw the Navigon 2200T, and I'd have bought one if it were available. It's smaller than that Garmin.
That's a good rundown. It's the kind of information I was thinking about. I'll check out the 750. I've used one of the lower model Garmins and the senseless mapping commands were driving me nuts. I hope the 750 is better.

I dunno, i've gone through a couple GPSs and I thought the Garmin was the most intuitive. none of them are really perfect though.
I can't stress enough how important getting an antenna is. It's important if you're even in a slightly urban area. Driving through downtown Chicago, you'll drop signal for half your trip, and unless your GPS stays locked on its signal 100% of the time, it loses its worth very quickly.

I agree. That's the other thing, sometimes the Garmin that I used took FOREVER to acquire a sat signal.
I really like the lifetime traffic of the Navigon. I think I'll try your 750 and see how that is until the Navigon is released.

Oh I forgot to mention the most important part of buying a Garmin. They turn on and off along with its power source. So if you connect it to an ACC line like the cig lighter, you never have to touch the power. With a Tom Tom, it'll either do on or off, but not both (it's not a choice, i just forgot which it did). So far, I've never seen or heard of any other GPS that does this. This was probably 50% of the reason I went with Garmin.

I was using this set:
Dell X51v and OnCouse GPS holder.

This set fit G35's cubby perfectly. Put Tomtom or iGo on the X51 then you have a perfect GPS
... this PDA will also play MP3, video,... what ever a WinMo PDA can do...
You can get the whole set on ebay for ~$150-200.
